Where is Finn McMissile? (Leland: You'll never catch up... he will stop you...) Heh, We will see...
~ Zil before killing Leland in Prague deleted chase scene

Zil was the main antagonist of early versions of the 2011 Pixar film Cars 2, the sequel to Cars. He is a Russian criminal mastermind and the leader of Lemons who is behind the plot to turn the entire world against alternative fuels and make money out of it.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • As the leader of the Lemons, he is responsible weather directly or indirectly for every single crime they all commit including that of Giulia and Tomber.
  • Came up with the plan to turn the world against alternative fuels just for profit and also intended to assassinate the queen of England for unknown reasons. Though considering how the Lemons are treated racially in universe, it possibly contributed to that similar to the final version.
  • Had the Lemons chase Agent Leland Turbo through Prague which caused several crashes. Though the crashes are portrayed as lighthearted and comical, the scene itself is taken seriously due to its infamously dark ending.
  • Had Leland painfully crushed to death in a Car crusher just for information on Finn McMissile. He even, took sadism in playing with the agent’s freedom and even chuckled briefly.
  • Had Tomber and three other Lemons go to Octoberfest to track down and kill Rod Redline whom as implied by both what Mater says and by how he is dressed was a waiter at the time. They also killed him horribly, as they beat him brutally, his injuries were so bad that as shown during his final moments interacting with Mater that he couldn’t do something as simple as hanging on a tiny boat. Only to then collapse and drown in a haunted house river which even by this universe standards of Leland being crushed to death onscreen is extremely cruel and vicious.
  • Upon mistakenly believing Mater to be the spy, due to Redline’s last words to the tow truck, he had Tomber attempt to stab him on a train to Paris. Though luckily Finn saved Mater by dividing the train carriers.
  • He sent Giulia undercover as a worker for team McQueen and had her pretend to be Mater’s friend by taking advantage of his insecurities of feeling like he was embarrassing/being a bad friend to Lightning. Considering that Giulia was a team helper, it’s very possible that Zil and the other Lemons killed the actual car assigned to the team.
  • Kidnapped Mater and attempted to dunk him in Molten Lava.
  • Considering we haven’t learnt anything about what happened in the climax, Zil is technically a Karma Houndi.
  • Despite being mistreated for being a lemon, he far passes the excuse by committing terrorism and other horrendous crimes.
  • While his screen time is pretty limited, with Giulia having more screen time and personal effect/cruelty on Mater, Zil still stands out for orchestrating everything, lack of comedic moments (even Giulia has some albeit very minor funny moments), also taking clear sadism in the crimes that he commits such as torturing Leland to death and laughing about it whilst doing so.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While he has more crimes onscreen than Giulia, Zil still suffers Fridge Horror as while all of his motives and greedy plans are known in “Meet Finn”, there is still no confirmation that he even murdered any of the other cars at the junkyard as he could’ve simply have been using it as his hideout or just to hide Leland’s body once he killed him. While one could say that Leland’s shocked reaction to seeing the corpses at the junkyard maybe provides enough evidence that Zil did indeed kill them, it's still unclear whether Zil himself killed any of those cars or if they were already dead. It’s also worth mentioning that there is no evidence that Zil was aware of Giulia intentionally releasing a farm full of cows which she knew would endanger innocent people.

Trivia[]

  • Zil was replaced by Sir Miles Axlerod when the latter proved to be more popular among the producers.
