His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is a corrupt lieutenant commander in the United States Coast Guard who abuses his position to prey on female military personnel and rapes them, having victimized multiple women. This is confirmed when Benson acquires a file containing information about his corruption. The line "All those rapes, and Taverts trying to pressure the victims into dropping the charges," confirms Taverts' status as a serial rapist.
- When Amelia Albers joins the coast guard, Taverts continuously pressures her into having sex with him, despite her declining.
- He is shown to be a misogynist, stating how no one says no to a commanding officer, especially a woman.
- Due to Amelia's refusal to have sex with him, Taverts orchestrates her gang-rape. Taverts goes to a bar where Amelia is with other officers. He commands them to partake in her gang, having one officer, Scott Graver, restrains her arms, Taverts having threatened to oust him as homosexual if he did not participate. Taverts and the others brutally rape, leaving her with serious injuries and both physical and mental trauma.
- To make this even worse, Amelia's father, Vincent Albers, is a respected admiral who had helped Taverts throughout his career.
- Taverts is confident that he will get away with it due to his power and the fact that Amelia will not want to be in trouble for breaking curfew or risk dishonoring her family.
- When questioned by the detectives, Taverts lies and denies that he and his officers had not done anything.
- Taverts and the other rapists claim the sex was consensual, despite how severe the injuries they left Amelia with, were.
- During a recess at the trial, Taverts goes up to Admiral Albers and insults his daughter to him, saying that she was not suited to be in the military.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He fails the absurd Heinous Standards to other sexual predators into the series, due to suffering from Fridge Horror his other rapes, aside from the one he commits against Amelia, are not explored.
- While the heavily implications of being a serial rapist could help him, he isn't as heinous to other serial rapists for having a vast more resources and failing the standard to someone like Lowell Harris, a guard who raped dozens of female inmates, possibly killed some with TB (which he inflicted), and sexually assaulted Olivia Benson.
