Near Pure Evil Wiki

There is no time, young warrior. There is no time for goodbye. There is no time for shelter. There is no time for help. You won't be able to save anyone. You will become very sick tonight. And won't be able to speak of me to the Pajé. It doesn't matter, you've swallowed enough. I will leave this body now, and will come back at night... to get all of you!
~ The White Night teasing and poisoning Tom Tom through possession of Papaya's body
Tom Tom: If you're still there, evil being, listen... your time ends tonight! I will save my tribe and free the spirit that you stole from so many brothers.
White Night: You wouldn't know where to start boy...
Tom Tom: I'll start where it all started.
~ White Night confronting Tom Tom.

The White Night is the titular main antagonist of the Graphic MSP Tom Tom: White Night.

He was an european man of unknown origin, whose blood was cursed with an unknown evil power. Once his corpse was eaten in a ritual by an indigenous leader that found him, he took over the leader's soul and body, and from then on started raiding tribes of the pre-colonial Brazil one by one, where he warned someone of the attack two days before, massacred everyone, killing and eating the women and children while turning the men into his own zombified army, leaving always one survivor: the one he warned beforehand, to wander aimlessly, broken, and warning others of the danger so that White Night's reputation may grow.

He is the archenemy of Tom Tom and Cobra Grande.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Pure Evil?[]

  • While not outright confirmed, it is heavily implied he killed all of the other sailors of the shipwreck.
  • Upon being rescued by indigenous tribes of the Brazillian shore, he attacked them, and ran to the woods, from where he recurringly attacked and ate some members of the tribe.
  • When the Chief, disobeying his tribe's Pajé, decides to eat the White Night's heart before burning his body in order to gain his strenght, the evil spirit destroys the Chief's soul and takes over his body, in what is described to be the worst possible way of killing someone.
  • From then on, the White Night started his reign of terror and destroying tribes, starting with the one that the Chief he took over came from. The men were turned into zombified, pale slaves that composed his army, while women and children were feasted upon. He continued this for at least a century, in a process that involved:
    • Warning a warrior from the next tribe with visions and dreams, of the attack;
    • Raiding the tribe, capturing the women and children being eventually eaten and zombifying the men, sparing only that warrior he had warned;
    • Leaving the pre-warned warrior to aimlessly roam and spread the fear of the White Night, with a "destroyed spirit", as well as riddled with fear and guilt over not having saved his own.
  • When he chooses Tom Tom as the one he will spare next time, he kills an innocent Yellow Bellied Seedeater (a bird that, in portuguese, shares name with Tom Tom: "Papa Capim"), leading to him having a vision of White Night's true form (a green fog) attacking him after brutally leaving the bird's body.
  • He further torments Papa Capim by possessing his friend and love interest, Papaya, and having her force poisonous seeds down his throat to make him sick and unable to tell the Pajé of their tribe (who himself was spared by the White Night 75 years ago) that he was having the visions. While doing this, he veemently taunts him verbally, before disappearing, which also knocks Papaya out.
  • True to his word, he raids and kidnaps everyone from Tom Tom's tribe, leaving only him. Tamoyo and Papaya, Tom's best friends that left believing his word, were not spared either, as a trooper from White Night's army went after them.
  • Sends a zombified Tamoyo to get Tom Tom when he, refusing to let his spirit break, took a bow and arrow and went to confront him. Refusing to harm his friend, Tom would've died if not for Cobra Grande swallowing him in the last second.
  • Once Tom Tom rescues the women and children and gets them back to the tribe, the White Night comes back and they attack again, implicitly wanting to just kill them all off at once in anger of Tom managing to rescue them. They would've succeeded, if it wasn't a trap by Tom Tom, who attacked them with the animals of the forest (who he, bestowed by Honorato with powers of nature, could temporarily control)
  • Still tries to talk Tom Tom down during their war, saying he won't be able to defeat him.
  • While the White Night is referred multiple times as a group, and the army is what is mostly seen, it is clear that they are mostly a bunch of mindless, zombie husks under the control of the outsider who originally carried the curse, who has enough characterization through his backstory and dialogues with Tom Tom (be it possessing Papaya or mentally talking to him at the climax).

What Prevents Him From Pure Evil?[]

  • While details are not given, the man who'd become the White Night is described by Honorato as having, even before getting to Brazillian shores, "an evil as ancient as the world" running in his veins. He is said again and again to be an "evil being" throughout the story, making it clear that whatever it is, White Night's curse makes him Made of Evil, thus leading to Moral Agency issues. However, considering how much personality he conveins, it is a minor prevention.
