“ | You must be a special class of trouble to end up here. The Admin, well… this is where he sends the people who he has special plans for. You may have noticed… it's not a very nice place, and the people… well, they're not so nice either. | „ |
~ The Warden in the epilogue of Giant Consequences. |
“ | You see, here at the Sunshine Institute, there are two types of guests: people who made the Admin extra angry, such as yourself and your punch-happy friend down there, and there are people who the Admin sends to make sure the first group will be… well-behaved. Your friend, with the glasses, is surprisingly feisty for such a skinny guy. | „ |
~ The Warden telling Jesse how the Sunshine Institute works. |
“ | Did you know she was once an Admin, too? THE Admin had to take her powers away! She tried to DESTROY him! I promised the Admin, I'd never let her go no matter what, and I'll keep that promise... EVEN IF I NEED TO BLOW US ALL UP TO DO IT! | „ |
~ The Warden's last words before being shot to death by Xara. |
The Warden is a major antagonist in the Minecraft: Story Mode series, serving as the secondary antagonist of Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two, specifically as the main antagonist of the episode Jailhouse Block. He is the sadistic Warden of the Sunshine Institute who oversees it and puts the Guests under horrific conditions. He is also Romeo's right-hand in the Institute.
He is voiced by Donovan Patton.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He made a threat to the Guests outside of the Sunshine Institute, on the microphone, that if they don't "kindly follow the orange line in the floor to the check-in zone", then they'll burn to death by getting sizzled in lava.
- The Warden would likely follow through on his threat because there are bowls of lava ready to pour on the Guests if they don't do what he says.
- He put the Guests under torturous conditions and never let them leave, such as forcing the Guests in the Mush Room to constantly fight each other for the limited food so they wouldn't starve to death, and forcing the Guests in the Zombie Mines to kill zombies that are constantly spawning to use their rotten flesh as the only food source.
- Not only does this put the Guests in constant danger, but rotten flesh is a terrible food source.
- While he did warn Jesse and Petra/Jack about the dangers of leaving the Sunshine Institute during their first escape attempt, this was most likely out of fear of what Romeo would do to him if Jesse managed to escape and not actual concern.
- He sadistically tortured Jesse's intern, Radar, in front of him/her though a device known as the Iron Breathtaker, which shoved an iron block over his head to slowly suffocate him, even commenting that "I hear it's… excruciating in there." This proves that he is aware of the immense pain the victim is forced to go through because of the Breathtaker.
- If Jesse agrees to become an Associate, the Warden only releases Radar because he is impressed by Jesse's decision. If Jesse refuses and remains a Guest, the Warden only releases Radar out of the disappointment of Jesse's choice and then cruelly kicks Radar to the ground, causing his glasses to break in half.
- He attempted to convince Jesse to shear Oxblood's Mooshroom to turn the latter into an ordinary cow.
- If Jesse is a Guest, the Warden threatens him/her that if he/she doesn't shear Geoff, he'll bring pain to his/her friends. If Jesse is an Associate, the Warden tells him/her to do so because Geoff "undoes the balance of the Mush Room." If Jesse agrees to shear Geoff, the Warden grins diabolically.
- Additionally, if Jesse chooses to shear Geoff into a normal cow, it will mean less food for the Guests to eat because they couldn't get the mushrooms from Geoff, thus making them more vulnerable towards starvation. If Jesse refuses to shear Geoff, the Warden has the latter taken away by one of his Associates and kicks the Mooshroom with his owner, Oxblood, dragged as he's hanging onto Geoff's leg, and has the other Associates dig up the mycelium out of spite, even when Jesse tells him that the Guests will all starve.
- After Romeo demoted the Warden from his current status to a Guest, he tried to kill his boss's personal prisoner Xara, Jesse and their gang, and himself in order to keep Xara from ever escaping the Sunshine Institute. It's also worth noting that while he did try to commit suicide, it's not out of seeking redemption for his crimes, but rather, making sure that his most hated prisoner stays in the Sunshine Institute forever.
- While he was sent to the Sunshine Institute as a Guest simply for making Romeo angry in some way and he admits to Jesse that he is a prisoner in the Sunshine Institute along with everyone else there, it does not even begin to justify his horrific actions towards his Guests, such as leaving them with little food to eat in the Mush Room, forcing them to kill zombies so they could survive in the Zombie Mines, and torturing Radar.
- While he may not be as heinous as Romeo, PAMA, or the Wither Storm, he still stands out due to having fewer resources.
- Also, despite having similar resources to Hadrian and Mevia, he still stands out due to his torture methods being very unique compared to theirs, such as the Iron Breathtaker, starving his prisoners in the Mush Room, and forcing prisoners in the Zombie Mines to fight and kill zombies every few seconds. Additionally, unlike them he is actually shown torturing someone.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- The reason why the Warden wanted to keep Xara from escaping was that he promised Romeo that he would never let her escape, no matter what, and was willing to keep his promise even if it meant risking his own life, showing he was not only honorable, but loyal to some extent, despite Romeo firing him.
Trivia[]
- He is one of three Minecraft: Story Mode villains to be Near Pure Evil alongside The White Pumpkin and Mevia.
- The former lead writer of Minecraft: Story Mode, Eric Stirpe, claimed that the Warden of the Sunshine Institute got his status when he sold out Carmine, which caused him to move up the ranks and become the Warden.
- However, the part where the person who would become the Warden sold out Carmine to get his status as the Warden is never confirmed nor evidential in-universe, meaning there is no clear confirmation on whether he did so or not, though if it was confirmed in-universe, it would make him worse.
