Long time no see! We're gonna have so much-
~ Vulture to Spider-Man upon escaping from the Raft.
The vigor of youth, the wisdom of experience; a fine pairing
~ Vulture to Spider-Man as they fight.

Adrian Toomes, best known by his alias the Vulture, is a supporting antagonist in the 2018 video game Marvel's Spider-Man, a minor antagonist in its 2020 spin-off Spider-Man: Miles Morales and a posthumous antagonist in its 2023 sequel Marvel's Spider Man 2. Out of all the members of the Sinister Six, he is the one who has the most history with Spider-Man.

He was voiced by Dwight Schultz.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Attempted to kill his former business partner Greg Bestman, after a falling out about their business, though this was foiled by Spider-Man.
  • Committed many robberies.
  • Mentioned to have nearly permanently blinded the hero in one fight, showing that he can be incredibly barbaric when push comes to shove.
  • Helped Electro and Scorpion wreak havoc on the Raft, which very likely killed several prisoners, and prison guards.
  • Helped brutally beat up Spider-Man alongside his teammates on the Raft rooftop. The beating was so brutal, that Spider-Man was left with 14 broken bones and was noticeably weaker for the rest of the game as a result.
  • Helped Electro destroy several Oscorp power plants.
  • After Spider-Man escaped Octavius’ trap, he abducted and attempted to murder the hero alongside Electro.
  • After being broken out of prison by his granddaughter Tiana, and two of her associates, they robbed several banks while both of them attempted to murder both Spider-Men.
  • Wishing to expose Terra Hill, he and his granddaughter infected thousands of people with parasitic nanobots that turned them into mindless bird zombies.
    • While this sounds like generic brainwashing at first, it’s later revealed that as a result of the nanobots in their blood stream, they are being slowly, and painfully killed at the same time, it’s shown that Vulture was more than aware of this, but couldn’t care less, unless he got what he wanted.
      • It’s also mentioned that had Vulture not been stopped, that at least a thousand people would’ve been killed as a result of the brainwashing. As mentioned above, Vulture more than knew about all of this, but really didn’t care as long as he got his own way, and even if he had, it’s pretty clear he wouldn’t have spared or tried to save his brainwashed victims.
        • Even his granddaughter, was so disgusted at Adrian for this, that she betrayed him in favor of giving the Spider-Men pivotal information on him.
  • Attempted to kill Kraven the Hunter, during his last minutes of life, though to be fair this was self-defense.
  • While the heinous standards are huge, Vulture stands out for his unique crime of trying to let over a thousand people die painfully as a side effect of the brainwashing he inflicted on them.
  • While he was initially treated as a joke villain in the first game, his murderous schemes in the book, is taken completely seriously, thus subverting his moments of initially detracting humor.
  • Despite initially starting out as an anti-villain who just wanted to cure his spinal cancer, he eventually goes way too far/crosses the line to still be seen as such since he brought it on himself, especially when he attempted to let thousands of innocent people die slow, and painful deaths.
    • Also, despite being hunted down and killed by Kraven and it still being played sympathetically by the narrative, it’s not exactly undeserved/or qualifies him as a scapegoat, like with Electro and Scorpion, considering how he himself was willing to let thousands of people die despite having nothing to do with a petty grudge for something that was arguably his own fault.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He’s a bit tragic, as he originally was just a normal guy who wanted to help change the world (similar to Otto) and felt genuinely betrayed by Greg after their falling out. He then, as a result of the overuse of his wings, gained spinal cancer, and was slowly dying as a result, he was then experimented on by Terra Hill and was kept in the dark about what they were actually doing to his body, and was eventually killed by Kraven for the sake of a hunt. However, this is honestly pretty minor in the grand scheme of things considering how his cancer was something he brought on himself as a result of his excessive use of the wings, and how he was willing to let thousands of people who did nothing to him painfully die an excruciating and undeserved death.
  • He can be genuinely affable towards his allies, such as how he genuinely respects Otto, for his intelligence, and how nearly successful his plan to murder Spider-Man was. A stark contrast to Scorpion, who only respected the mad doctor for his sadistic side. He also has a genuine friendship with and respects Electro, and agrees with his views on teamwork, which both particularly stands out, and is never subverted.
  • He loves his granddaughter Tiana, in spite of her betraying him.

Trivia[]

  • He was originally considered Inconsistently Heinous, as it was believed that he was a genuine anti-villain due to only wanting to cure his Cancer, and that he had too many preventions to qualify here. However, once it was pointed out that while still holding up to a degree his tragedy is mostly bought upon himself, he subverted being an anti-villain with his willingness to let thousands of people who did nothing to him die, most of his preventions were the same but added more than once, and that as a result of his more heinous actions Kraven killing him while still slightly sympathetic it didn't make him a Scapegoat.
