The Voice of the Azran is the overarching antagonist of Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. It was a computer program within Aurora that desired to wipe out the human race after "judging" them unworthy of survival.

Its Evil Ranking[]

What Makes It Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Once released, it immediately planned to end all of humanity by having the golems kill them. This was because it deemed mankind worthless after Bronev proved himself to be a bad person. This is an incredibly quick assumption on its part, assuming all of humanity is evil because one man is, especially considering it then plans to commit genocide.
  • It prepares to send light into the golems to awaken them. This creates so much panic that it causes Bronev to redeem himself, and Layton, Luke, Emmy, Descole, and Bronev step in front of the golems and are killed by the beams of light. The Voice of the Azran killed the main characters, including a child, and it seems to be incredibly painful based off their screams.
  • Aurora ends up having to sacrifice her own life to revive those it had killed, and convince it humanity wasn't meaningless and worthless.
  • While it calls off its plan and revives the five who sacrificed themselves, there are multiple factors preventing one from calling this a redemption.
    • First of all, it only seems to stop it's genocide because Aurora told it too, not because it wanted to. It even says "so be it", as if it's doing so begrudgingly.
    • Another thing worthy of noting is that the Voice doesn't permanently call off its plan, it only seems to temporarily pause it, and likely would decide humanity was "unworthy" again if it was freed again. The only thing stopping it from doing this again is Aurora, its vessel, dying.
    • And most importantly, Aurora asks the "Azran Light" for help, muddling the waters a little, as it's unclear if this "Azran Light" is the same as the Voice of the Azran, making it questionable if it even was the one stopping things.

What Prevents It from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Assuming it is the same being as the Azran Light, it seems to care for Aurora, reviving her five friends solely because she told it to.
  • It has questionable moral agency, as it is a computer program that contains the thoughts of the Azran people, and therefore is influenced by their thoughts. However, considering it has it's own personality and is willing to bring about the calamity that killed the people within its mind, this is a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • The Voice of the Azran is the only Professor Layton NPE, as most antagonists show too much remorse or redeem themselves, and the few that don't often are bog-standard.
  • Its status may change upon the release of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, thought it is rather unlikely.
