Good girl. But I lied. Guess that runs in the family.
~ Marquez revealing he had lied to Sophie about sparing her life

Victor Marquez is the main antagonist of the 2020 spy comedy film My Spy. He is a French arms dealer who wants to steal the plans for a nuclear weapon from his in-law family and sell it to a terrorist cell to make a profit. He was portrayed by Greg Bryk.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has been selling illegal arms for two decades sometimes partnering with his brother, David.
  • Plans to sell the plans of a nuclear weapon (which is described as a "nuclear apocalypse" and as having disastrous consequences should it ever be used) to a terrorist cell, not caring about the innocents that would die as a result. This is something even David himself opposes.
  • Kills his own brother, David, after the latter hides the plans from him.
  • Escapes from the Police by hijacking a car and throwing the woman who had been driving it on the street, not caring if she gets hurt in the process.
  • He tracks down one of his brother's associate, the lawyer Koll, and threatens him with death to reveal information about the whereabouts of the plans. In the uncensored version he also lethally stabs him and kills him after the interrogation is over which was removed from the censored version probably because the scene was considered too brutal for a kid-friendly comedy movie.
  • When he finds out that the Police had been tracking him, he blows up his own hideout to fake his death, resulting in the death of 3 of his associates.
  • Kidnaps his own 9-year old niece, Sophie, to use as insurance.
  • Treats his niece badly while she is in the car with him. When Sophie asks him why she is doing it, Victor just tells her she is his insurance and that she shouldn't call him "uncle" because he and his brother hated each other, showing no remorse over his murder. When Sophie asks to go back, Victor just tells her to shut up and not say anything else.
  • Tries to kill his own 9-year-old niece Sophie and JJ even after he had promised to spare their lives if Sophie gives him the plans and she complies with his demands which also makes him a liar and dishonorable.
  • Despite the comedic tone of the film, Victor has absolutely no comedic moments and his crimes are portrayed completely seriously.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He shows some affection for his brother's dog. There is one scene where he holds the dog and tries to take its collar because the plans for the nuclear weapon are there. When Sophie begs him not to hurt him, Victor responds with "This little guy? I would never hurt him. He means more to me than any of you do! He is my brother's best friend." and then kisses the dog and lets him go after taking the plans.
