Versitude is the central antagonist of the short-lived Nickelodeon fantasy sitcom The Other Kingdom. She's King Oberon's advisor and confidant in Athenia. Although she'd constantly plot to usurp King Oberon, Queen Titania, and Princess Astral behind the king's back, and is willing to suggest violent and harmful methods to humans.

She was portrayed by Alvina August.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Some time ago when the human and fairy worlds used to be interconnected, humanity or "the others" had polluted the fairy kingdom's environment in numerous ways, forcing the fairies to seal their magical world off with a veil separating their world from human world. While most of the Athenian residents live in fear of what the "others" are capable of, and tend to cause light-hearted mischief to them as a way to get back at them, yet ultimately still mean well, Versitude's shown to be far more hostile with what she's willing to do to the "others" and would even endanger certain lives. She's also willing to wage war against the "others" due to her viewing them as despicable and untrusting, something Oberon and Titania were strictly against.
  • Despite being King Oberon's advisor and the latter trusting Versitude with his life and willing to follow some of her suggestions, her "partnership/friendship" with Oberon is pretty much one-sided. She may pose fair, yet questionable ally among him and Titania, but out of their presence, her true nature comes out.
  • It's heavily implied that Versitude's part-pixie and hiding her true identity-- despite pixies having been banished from Athenia.

The Series[]

  • Her first speaking scene has her call the "others" "wasteful, silly creatures", quickly establishing her as a misanthrope. Then when Oberon needs Versitude's advice for an incident involving sprites and pixies biting each other, her suggestion is to see which one survives and give the winner a unicorn. Right away we get a glimpse how she doesn't care about who winds up getting hurt as long as she gets what she wants.
  • After Astral went on her "other walk" to explore humanity's ways and learn some lessons, Versitude stated behind the shadows that she'd ensure Astral wouldn't return home. She secretly wanted to usurp Oberon and Titania and become the new ruler of Athenia, and had a long-term plan to ensure it would happen.
  • When human British teenager Winston Althazar first arrived in Athenia she placed him in numerous less-than pleasant situations which made his first couple of days in Athenia miserable.
    • When he first arrived in Athenia, she was willing to have Winston eaten alive by Edgar the Giant just because of her distrust/dislike of "others", with the boy's life only being spared thanks to King Oberon interfering.
    • After witnessing some of the kingdom's residents (including herself, Oberon, Titania and Edgar) Winston would falsely presume he was at wizard school, and when Versitude gets fed up by Winston's obsessive questions about wizard powers, she tells Winston to sit on a nearby bridge, lying that he'd eventually gain wizard powers, although she was clearly just trying to get rid of him.
    • She's shown with a nearby smirk when Brendoni claims to Winston that he knew a quicker way to gains wizard powers, as she knew about Brendoni's troublesome nature.
    • Queen Titania would often Winston a nature-themed meal of dandelions, radishes and pinecones, but Winston wasn't all that interested in the meal and he noticed some berries on a nearby bush which Titania vaguely warns Winston not to eat without properly explaining why they were harmful, right before leaving to settle a dispute elsewhere. Sure enough, Versitude would pop in immediately afterwards, and take advantage of Winston's desperation, despite the latter having nearly been eaten several times in his short time in Athenia. (He was nearly being eaten by a giant, swallowed by a troll, and devoured by a plant right before being spat out) Naturally, Winston initially didn't want to take any more risks, but Versitude deceives Winston claiming that the berries were pure ambrosia, that Titania wanted them for herself, and that they'd fill him up delight his taste buds. In reality the berries would slowly transform him into a donkey as he ate a certain amount, and Winston had to confess to the King and Queen of what he did before the spell got worse. Even though Titania reversed the spell, it would only change him back when he proves himself worthy, and several days would pass before Winston's able to change back.
  • When Astral nearly exposes her fairy powers on live TV, she confronts Astral late that night and chewed her out, claiming she put Athenia in danger, even though Astral was able to cleverly cover up her fairy nature. She threatened to end her time in the other world early, and harm Astral's friends --including her crush Tristan-- if she ever had a similar incident.
  • When Astral gets a cold and loses control over her fairy powers while at school, it causes a lot of trouble (i.e.: Oswald growing to normal size and Tristan turning into a mouse and almost being exterminated) Versitude turns up and freezes time and everyone around her but Astral, but scolds Astral again for nearly exposing herself and claims she placed Athenia at risk for not staying home to prevent the chaos from get out of hand in the first place. While she does reverse Astral's magic and semi-restores order, this is heavily implied to be mere pragmatism, especially considering she fires Oswald from being Astral's protector moments later, and sends him on an assignment of "aligning the kingdoms" back in the fairy world, stating that she'd be watching her Astral herself as her new guardian.
  • The next day, she'd secretly lure in the shadows and spy on Astral and her boyfriend Tristan while the two of them were on a date. Then she'd return report back to Queen Titania claiming that Tristan wasn't a threat on the surface, but with Astral was spending more time with him even with the mishaps, Versitude concluded that Tristan was developing feelings for Astral, and once again, privately wanted to ensure that Astral wouldn't become the next queen.
  • When Winston and Peaseblossom come across a dying summerberry bush -- despite plants usually not dying in Athenia -- they'd come across Versitude and ask to see King Oberon, but Versitude insisted that Oberon was too busy deal with them, refused to help out with the issue, and decides to frame the duo for "destroying" the berry bush, knowing they were innocent. She suggests they fix the bush on their own, assuming they'd be unable to do so.
  • When Evermoor Woods was in danger of being bulldozed, as well as Athenia at risk of destruction --during a solar eclipse where fairies would temporarily lose their powers-- Versitude was willing to go to extreme lengths that that not even Oberon and Titania were willing to go for. For instance, Versitude wanted to wage war against humanity, which naturally Oberon and Titania object to not wanting to place their subjects in danger. And unlike the two of them, Versitude didn't place any faith in Astral as she claimed she was just a child.
  • She placed Winston under arrest for false crimes (falsely destroying the berry bush, nearly eating a bug, and exposing Peaseblossom to a video game), and has him taken to Athenian court. She sentences him to the Bogs of Nevermore where he'd dig tunnels for the trolls for the rest of his life at the end of Athenia and get very sweaty. The only reason Winston was spared from that fate was because Oberon was willing to let Winston stand on trial as an Athenian citizen, and make his case. And Peaseblossom, despite not being the most experienced defense attorney, is able to expose the truth about the summerberry bushes dying and free Winston. Versitude's response is simply to tell Oberon his faith in "others" could signal their end.
  • She's secretly working along side Spartanian King Reed for a mysterious plan with Oberon and Titania completely unaware of her alliance with him. She claimed "in time, all will be [his]", despite Athenia's hostile relationship with Spartania. She's selling Athenia out somehow.
  • When Astral gets exposed to a competitive game for the first time at school and started to take the game too seriously, to the point where it nearly unleashed her inner darkness and corrupted her, Versitude's shown with a pleased look, while Oberon and Titania are reasonably concerned for their daughter. Even when Astral eventually returns to her senses and calms down, Versitude was now aware Astral had a dark side, and planned to make it permanent, clearly showing she doesn't care about Astral's safety.
  • Winston and Peaseblossom overhear Versitude's plans to endanger Astral, and try to gather some proof to Oberon that Versitude was up to something. Except Versitude knew she was being watched by the two, and sets up a series of events that would get Winston and Peaseblossom suspicious of her actions (placing a mysterious item in the queen's tea, that turned out to be a unique berry; declaring an intention to overthrow the king, that turned out a line from a play) then when they turn out to be false, and King Oberon eventually has enough of their stories and refuses to listen to them due to his trust in Versitude, she boasts to Winston and Peaseblossom that she had planned all this, and with Oberon and Titania refusing to listen and them out of the way, she was untouchable, and she'd make sure she punished those two first when she became ruler.
  • The second time Athenia was danger of being bulldozed and destroyed, she's still doesn't show at lot of concern for the Athenian residents being in potential danger.
    • She painfully uses electrokinesis on Winston and Peaseblossom when they try to talk Oberon and Titania out of making a deal with Spartanian King Reed
    • She's shown with an evil smirk upon Astral being forced to marry Spartanian Prince Cliff for the sake of allowing the Athenians to evacuate to Spartania before the destruction. Thankfully, Oberon and Titania called the deal off and prevented Astral from having to do so.
    • In what may be her crossing of the Moral Event Horizon, she remorselessly locked Astral and her friends inside the gym, knowing Astral and Brendoni would be unable to use their powers to escape during the eclipse, and that Athenia was at risk of being bulldozed and destroyed at the time. If it hadn't been for Winston volunteering to slow down the bulldozers and buy the fairies some time, Athenia would have been destroyed before Astral and her teammates could escape. It was also made clear that not all of the Athenians would have been able to evacuate in time. If any of the residents were caught in the destruction and died with Athenia, Versitude would have been at fault for that, not that she would have cared.
    • She's never shown actively trying to help Oberon and Titania avert the crisis, despite still having her powers.
  • She was outraged over her plan to let Athenia get destroyed failing due to combined efforts of Winston and Astral and her friends, but she regains good thoughts when Oswald returns from his quest and discovers the truth about Tristan about a lost Spartanian prince.
  • Then she deliberately kept the information from the king and queen, but informed King Reed of the information, wanting to surprise Astral at the fall dance. Then later that night, when Versitude, Reed, Oberon and Titania show up the fall dance, Versitude orders Astral to get away from Tristan as he was a Spartanian, with Oberon and Titania rightfully upset with her for not telling them this essential discovery. Plus, Versitude also shows no remorse over Tristan being forcibly taken to Spartania to train to be king and possibly conquer Athenia. In a way, she still got the last laugh...
  • She's nearly always taken seriously in the narrative story, darkening the tone whenever she's present.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • The extent of her ultimate plan and endgame is pretty unclear and she's too enigmatic to quite be Pure Evil. The show made it clear that she plans to somehow to take over Athenia as its ruler somehow, and that she's willing to take Princess Astral out of the picture to do it, but other than that, it's unclear just what Versitude planned on doing to the residents of Athenia or the "others". She told Oswald that she wants to "align the kingdoms", and according to her, especially with Oberon and Titania, she claims she just wants to protect Athenia as the "others" had made a mess of their land before, and that they had to fight back in order to defend their homeland. Except... even if she somehow did have some sense of honor to the Athenians, she never truly shows it as all of her scenes have her manipulating the king and queen, spying on the princess, targeting Winston and Peasey and overall being an untrustworthy menace.
  • She also has a handful of moments where she isn't taken completely seriously, but those are few and in-between and therefore only minor preventions.

Trivia[]

  • She is the only Nickelodeon Near Pure Evil to be from a live-action series. Ironically enough Princess Astral from the same series, is the only Near Pure Good from a Nick live-action series.
  • It was stated in some interviews that the series was meant to run for 4 seasons, and have a graphic novel prequel series. It's unclear how Versitude's status would have been affected had the series not been cancelled and the other 3 seasons and additional content been released.
