You actually think you can change? Addict trash like you doesn't change. I'll see you soon, baby.
~ Valentino taunting Angel Dust for wanting to rehabilitate himself at the Hazbin Hotel.
I have killed bitches for less than this attitude that you're giving me! You are lucky you still make me money! Now you are going to go get rid of her, and then you're filming all night! GET ME?!
~ Valentino threatening Angel Dust into shooing away Charlie and forcing him to film pornography for the rest of the night.
I'M FROM F*CKING FLORIDA!
~ Valentino throwing a glass at Vox in response to his racism; his most famous quote.

Valentino, often just called Val for short, is a major antagonist in the adult animated musical dark comedy series Hazbin Hotel, serving as a major antagonist in Season 1 and one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Velvette) of Season 2.

He is one of Hell's most powerful and influential Overlords, serving as a member of the Vees alongside Vox and Velvette. The mood-swinging, impulsive owner of Hell's biggest pornography studios, Valentino mainly abuses his employees, particularly the porn star Angel Dust, being the latter's archenemy who's soul he owns through a contract, putting him in an unhealthy and toxic lifestyle. He currently serves as the new CEO of VoxTek Enterprises after Vox's plans of ruling Heaven and Hell had been ruined.

He is voiced by Joel Perez.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General/Background[]

  • While he appears to be affable, this is nothing more than a facade, as once he gets angry, he will immediately drop his act and throw a hissy fit.
  • While he has many comedic moments, especially in Season 2, such as his childlike demeanor, his obsession with sex (most notably when he breaks the tension after Vox and Alastor's song by encouraging them to have sex and when he seems to be aroused while watching Vox mindlessly fire the Might of Lilith throughout Hell much to Velvette's annoyance), him getting freaked out by Niffty, his iconic "I'm from f*cking Florida" and all of his moments on the VoxTek Employee Hub "how to draw with Valentino" in which he kept saying comedic lines and argue with vox as well as interacts with velvette in comical ways most of them happen when he is with the other Vees and not committing any crimes, and/or just show how perverted and immature he is (or in the case of the ones with Niffty, they're more focused on showing how psychotic she is), and his abuse of Angel Dust is played for intense horror.
  • While it's argued that he has standards against racism, as he was embarrassed by Vox's racist attempt to recruit Carmilla Carmine and got angry when he called Spanish an "island language", it's left too vague whether it's genuine standards or simply that he is angry because he himself is Hispanic. He is also racist himself towards Australians, as he calls Cherri Bomb an "Aussie slut", which demonstrates his hypocrisy.
    • During the Vees' presentation, he recruits 10/10 dancers for Vox, and one "8/10 for diversity," further demonstrating his hypocrisy.
  • He is a horrendously cruel and abusive boss towards his employees, constantly yelling at them and forcing them to work without break, with the worst and most notable case being with Angel Dust, who Val physically and sexually abuses violently, which involves hitting, raping, stalking and even torturing him (as Angel mentions he puts him through waterboarding), for little to no reason other than for his own sick kicks, leaving him with severe PTSD.
    • This is made even worse by the fact that he is capable of genuine affection, since he genuinely cares for the other Vees, yet chooses to treat everyone else around him like trash.
    • Additionally, he doesn't even view his employees as people, as he refers to them as his "property" and his "things". When Vox kills one of them by feeding her to Shok.wav, he just angrily says "I was using that".
    • It's also shown in the prequel comic Dirty Healings that Val rarely lets Angel leave his studio, ostensibly because their contract states that Val only has total control over Angel there.
  • Sometime before the events of the show and after enslaving Angel, he convinced him to tell him his sin of murdering his father, which he eventually told Vox, who taunts him about it later on.
  • Despite the Hellaverse's very high heinous standards, Valentino easily stands out due to the unique crime of sexual assault towards Angel Dust at the point of traumatizing him into PTSD, as well as using less resources. While he is a powerful overlord, he barely uses his powers to be heinous at all and instead relies on grounded physical and sexual abuse and psychological/emotional manipulation to terrorize Angel.
    • Even worse is that it's all but confirmed that Angel is not his only victim and he likely has hundreds if not thousands more that he treats just as bad, if not worse.
    • He even manages to outhouse the generic Stella, who could have done worse as she has more resources than Val but chooses to do standard abuse, attempted murder and torment.

Season 1[]

  • He mauled one of Velvette's fashion models to (temporary) death in a fit of rage, it was also shown from the blood across the department and the remains that he mauled more.
  • He threw a temper tantrum when finding out Angel is staying at the Hazbin Hotel, and shortly after, he prepares to go to the hotel to kill and rape everyone there to take Angel back by force. The only reason he chose not to go through with it is because Vox convinced him not to, as it would make them look weak in front of Hell's public eye.
  • He revealed to Vox that Alastor has returned to Hell and taunts him over it, knowing how much he gets on his nerves, showing Val isn't above using his companions' hatred towards others for enjoyment.
  • When he sees Angel flirting with a handyman demon for free, he gets extremely jealous and says he's gonna kill the demon's whole family.
  • He sent Angel threatening texts and voicemails, while also giving him fake apologies in an attempt to get him to come back to the studio, and then mocked him for thinking that he could change for the better.
  • One of his texts towards Angel involves a "donkey show", implying he forces his employees into bestiality.
  • When Vox asked on how they stop Alastor from making a deal with Charlie, Valentino suggested to "put something inside of them" and stated that it is how he gets his employees to behave, showing that he regularly drugs or orally violates his own workers without remorse. This gave Vox the idea of sending Sir Pentious to the hotel to help spy for them, and later Angel Dust, who successfully spied on the hotel for months.
  • He stated that he employed "every down in their luck losers" in the Vees' side of Hell, showing how much of his influence had spread towards those with low fortune.
  • When Charlie arrived at his studio, he greets her by non-consensually licking her arm and attempting to convince her to become a porn star for him, much to her discomfort.
  • When Charlie accidentally caused a fire in his studio, he chose to blame Angel for this and beat and threatened him both in the dressing room and on set in front of Charlie, then forced him to film multiple videos all night while also continuously raping him in between, much to his trauma.
    • Also, he stated to Angel that he killed "bitches" for less than "his attitude" and that he would've killed him if not for him making him money.
  • At some point during the song "Poison", he enabled Vox to hypnotize Angel and make him a sleeper agent to spy in the hotel for him, which made Vox always one step ahead of Charlie, such as letting him know that Lucifer can't harm sinners, which caused his intimidation later in "Silenced" to fail and allowed Vox to go further towards his goals of attacking Heaven.
    • This would also not only lead to Charlie and Vaggi having an argument against each other and Lucifer going into depression after Charlie kicked him out of the hotel for making things worse, but Angel Dust would also be filled with so much guilt that he would leave the hotel and distance himself from his friends since he felt that they wouldn't be safe around him after what Vox made him do, leaving everyone devastated because of his absence.
  • When Niffty approached him at a nightclub while drunk, he attempted to pick her up and get her to be one of his sex slaves before Angel intervened and stood up to him to defend her, to which Val retaliated by slapping him and promising to "make him pay for it tomorrow", heavily suggesting he planned on torturing him gruesomely the next day.
    • He's also heard threatening to kill a waitress if she doesn't bring him a drink.
  • During the finale, he and Vox sang about mocking Alastor over his near-death against Adam while announcing their plans to overthrow Lucifer and take over Hell.

Season 2[]

  • He and the other Vees employed a sinner woman and sexually exploited her, causing her to be hated amongst multiple people due to her overexposure, before firing her and leaving her in tears.
  • When Vox fed one of his workers to Shok.wav, Val showed no sadness and instead just remarked that he was using "that", with the "that" once again showing he does not view most people as people but as sexual objects.
  • During the song "Once We Get Up There", he sang about how he planned to sexually enslave angels and rape them once they take over Heaven, showing enjoyment over the idea.
  • Throughout the season, he helped Vox tarnish Charlie's image by using her victory against Adam as an advantage to frame her for being a dictator/liar who doesn't know what she's doing so that the Vees can stir away sinners from the hotel, prevent them from being redeemed and lure them to their building to gain their trust and form an army with them to start an uprising against Heaven.
  • He, alongside the other Vees fought and tried to kill Alastor, Husk and Niffty in a battle that resulted in many casualties, in which he pinned down and nearly killed Niffty, and when Alastor made a deal to become Vox's prisoner in exchange for sparing Husk and Niffty, Val helped Vox torture him by forcing him to watch as they have sex.
    • Though he clearly didn't enjoy the act, this was only because Vox didn't pay attention to him rather than having any standards.
  • When Vox humiliated Lucifer by revealing his inability to hurt sinners in front of an entire audience, Val used this as an opportunity to taunt him by keeping him onstage and twerking in his face.
  • At Vox's request, he sold Angel to him for the night and allowed him to brutally torture and brainwash him in order to turn him to their side and have him rat on the hotel for being unable to redeem him, leaving the hotel staff shocked at this.
    • Despite him looking quite upset at this happening to Angel, it has nothing to do with him caring about Angel on a moral level, but moreso because he thinks Vox is "stealing his toy".
  • He punched Ethan, one of his own employees, for literally no reason whatsoever other than not liking how the Might of Lilith looks.
  • He tried to kill Husk and Cherri Bomb when they broke into his tower to rescue Angel Dust, and when they got the upper hand, he had a brainwashed Angel Dust try to strangle Cherri, which he sadistically laughs about.
  • Although he helped Charlie and the other overlords destroy the Might of Lilith in the end, it was purely for pragmatic reasons, as he and Velvette did it just so they won't get killed, so this does not make him On & Off. It's also worth noting that he and Velvette were planning to escape Pentagram City had one of Val's wings not been damaged.
    • It's clear that he has zero problems with letting Vox blast the weapon all across Hell, permanently killing multiple sinners in the process, as he expresses a sick and twisted sexual pleasure towards it and only has a problem with it when it begins endangering his and Velvette's lives.
    • In addition, he only started helping after Velvette convinced him to.
    • He also took all the credit for saving everyone, becoming the new CEO of VoxTek in the process. Even though every other Overlord (except Carmilla and Zestial) was also mainly helping out of pragmatic reasons, they at least never boasted about being heroes in the moment and promptly said the situation ought to be forgotten, while Valentino is the most blatantly selfish overlord in helping stop the weapon yet has the audacity to claim he is the most altruistic one.
  • Right before returning to V Tower, he gave an evil smirk to Angel after Vox is defeated just before Angel returns to working for him, showing he hasn't changed a bit and will certainly continue abusing Angel.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He genuinely cares for the other Vees, seeing them as close friends and never objectifying them like he does others:
    • He and Vox have had an on-off romance for decades by the time the show begins. Vox is the only one who can calm down Valentino during his temper tantrums, and tie-in material on the VoxTek Employee Hub shows Val acting like a clingy boyfriend who wants to eat dinner together with Vox and calling him pet names. As Vox becomes more cruel and abusive to him and Velvette, Valentino grows insecure about their relationship and his sudden change in behavior. Even as Vox tries to kill both him and Velvette by letting the Might of Lilith overload and blow up, Valentino still doesn't give up on him; after decapitating him to make him harmless, he tries to fly away with both him and Velvette in his arms (though this doesn't work due to his injured wing). After the Might of Lilith is stopped, Valentino takes a decapitated Vox with him to V Tower, angry at him but still keeping him around. While he publicly denies any relationship with Vox on the news, this is likely to keep the Vees' PR intact beside his own.
    • He and Velvette are shown to be close friends, as he emphasizes that the Vees' takeover of Heaven is "their" plan rather than just Vox's when talking to him. This is also evidenced by how he was going to take Velvette (and Vox) with him when trying to escape the explosion of Lucifer's power, demonstrating that he genuinely cares about her. They are also shown to get along and have a genuine friendship, with tie-in material on the VoxTek Employee Hub showing he affectionately calls her "babydoll" (even having it as her contact name in his phone) and genuinely ask her if she wants something to eat, while also sending her "kisses" when they end the call. He also genuinely smiles at her when she comforts him about his situation with Vox in "When I Think About the Future"
  • His sadness and insecurity at being ignored and emotionally mistreated by Vox is played for sympathy, since he is pained by the deterioration of their relationship, as evidenced during his part of "When I Think About The Future".

Trivia[]

  • While he is Near Pure Evil so far, his status may or may not change as the series is still ongoing.
