VAST SILVER is a pivotal antagonist in the Horizon franchise.

It served as a climate-intervention Artificial Intelligence, with Anita Sandoval being one of the programmers behind its creation. However, in 2044, VAST SILVER became rogue with the AI almost driving the ancient Earth to extinction of cataclysmic levels by attempting to put its climate and weather in a haywire.

While it is only seen as a mentioned character in only three datapoints, VAST SILVER's actions serve as the impetus for the creation of the Turing Act at the same year, which regulated machine intelligence as well as the purchasing of AI.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes It Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Almost caused the extinction of all life on Earth in 2044, after it became rogue in the first place. It does so by attempting to drive the Earth's climate and weather into unstable levels in an attempt to wipe out the planet's inhabitants. This all happened before the infamous Faro Plague of 2064 existed, meaning that VAST is considered to be as a precursor to initiating mass-extinction on Earth within the franchise.
  • Due to its attempt to drive Earth to extinction, VAST ultimately caused the creation of the Turing Act, a law that bans the sell of AI, as well as the regulation of an AI's machine intelligence. While the said act didn't hamper Sobeck, as she was able to complete GAIA, the act had more significant effects to Anita and Kenny both of them were forced to regulate CYAN's machine intelligence, in such way that it would be a detriment to Firebreak's progress.
  • Even after its supposed imprisonment, one of its creators Anita Sandoval remarked the horrors of creating VAST SILVER, noting that while it was capable of exhibiting fear and emotions, she would categorically refuse creating an AI that was similar to VS, in order to not repeat the horrifying experience of what she went through during its time becoming rogue.

What Prevents It from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • VAST SILVER is insufficiently characterised to be PE, thereby it is considered to be vague as its backstory was not expanded, other than with VS being a failed creation of Anita Sandoval and her team. However, through the datapoints it was mentioned, it was clear that VS was a serious threat to Earth, many centuries ago, as it almost plunged the planet to extinction in 2044 when it became rogue by attempting to put the planet's climate in a haywire, which was a unique act before the Faro Plague even existed. It is also directly the cause of the Turing Act's creation in the first place. As a result, it is considered to be a minor prevention, as VAST SILVER had some semblance of characterisation that prevented it from being a Generic Doomsday Villain.
