What friendship does to a man

What friendship does to a man

I have finally gotten whitelisted for this wiki, and I can make my first ever Near Pure Evil proposal! And it'll be a silly one at that!

What's the Work?

Smiling Friends is an Adult Animated Comedy released in 2020, it follows a small charity called Smiling Friends Inc. and follows the main characters: Pim, Charlie, Glep, Mr. Boss and Allan. Each episode they have to make a client smile.

Who is He? What Has He Done?

Literally DIED but his obsession brought him back

Literally DIED but his obsession brought him back

Mr. Landlord is the main antagonist of the episode titled "A Allan Adventure" in Season 2. He is an INSANE landlord, even by Smiling Friends standards, who has an unhealthy obsession with Allan Red. As a result, he made an entire plan to sabotage his job to find a box of paper clips, simply so he can hang out with him.

At the beginning of the episode, he didn't seem AS bad, just a landlord who seemingly wanted to hang out with his clients and backs off when Allan said he was busy to do so. However, this is far from that.

Later on, we see the Landlord again in an apartment, holding the paper clips that Allan spent all day looking for. Landlord would later outright say that everything Allan has gone through was all his plan, which includes:

DJ Spit stealing the box of paperclips, running for it and takes it away in a helicopter before Allan makes it to the railing. The brief tilt in the helicopter led to several birds being brutally shredded to death. As such, the situation endangered Allan and everyone near them, and caused a highly destructive airborne battle with the U.S. military. As the Air Force chases and shoots at them, one of the jets shoots out a missile, which blows up and causes the helicopter to crash with both of them. As a result, DJ Spit gets impaled by a helicopter blade through his stomach, which seriously injured him and possibly ended up killing him, as of now he still hasn't been shown in Season 3. Allan is left injured, disoriented and stranded in the forest. He had the Sasquatch steal the paperclips and store them in his cave. Allan had to go into the cave and as a result, the Sasquatch also attempted to kill him. He hired a crew of Skeleton Pirates to steal the paperclips, after their captain decapitated Sasquatch, they went on a boat, forcing Allan to chase them with a raft. After the pirates throw a grenade at him, Allan survives by riding two of the boards of the broken raft as a pair of water-skis before they all get eaten by a gigantic Leviathan, killing all of the Skeleton Crew members, along with the captain, who died after getting impaled by his cutlass after landing in the monster's stomach. The leviathan later shoots Allan out of its blowhole after he repeatedly stabs its stomach out of anger, with Allan washing up ashore. Even after everything he went through, this led to him finding a note in the box directing him to his apartment, meaning the entire thing was done for no real good reason other than Landlord's sheer desperation to get Allan to hang out. Overall, he spent 750k dollars and took over 8 months of planning just to get Allan into the apartment. Landlord is also shown to be rather a terrible boss, as he didn't show a hint of concern that basically all his minions died, even after mentioning some of them were paid actors, meaning some of them literally died.

When Allan threatens him, Landlord further shows his insanity by showing a bomb strapped to his chest before saying if Allan hurts or doesn't hang out with him, he will blow up everyone and everything in the city, including Allan and himself. After he did finally get his wish of Allan playing Burnout: Revenge for the PS2, he arrogantly and obnoxiously insults Allan's gameplay, even when he is literally ramming his car into his. Even after committing suicide, he comes back to life before yelling he will make Allan hang out with him again. Something that I'll mention, even though he is clearly INSANE, this doesn't give him moral agency as he himself is clearly aware that he is insane yet used it to his own advantage.

Heinous Standard

EVERYONE IN THIS CITY WILL DIE IF YOU DON'T SMOKE WEED WITH ME!!

EVERYONE IN THIS CITY WILL DIE IF YOU DON'T SMOKE WEED WITH ME!!

Yeah uh, Smiling Friends has a high heinous standard here, mostly due to Mr. Frog (which holy shit he has done a LOT and became president, which he became worse), Oscar (Doing brutal executions for people looking at his eye) and The Frowning Friends (Who they planned to eradicate every Puerto Rican for no real reason). Ultimately, Mr. Landlord does stand out because, well, he's a Landlord, that's it. He doesn't have as near resources as the 3 mentioned before, he has a very high attempted kill count because he was threatening to blow up the city, as long as endangering and killing people during the quest in Allan's.

Is He Silly Enough?

We're in Smiling Friends bruv

We're in Smiling Friends bruv

If you know Smiling Friends then you know why, Mr. Landlord definitely is and there is no denying it. Even if you get passed his eccentric behavior and fast-talking demeanor, his entire plan to sabotage Allan’s quest to find paper clips just so that he could get the latter to hang out and spend time with him is just way too fucking bizzare to ignore. Even his defeat at Allan's hands is comedic, he disabled his bomb with a mere paperclip and he committed suicide by randomly stabbing himself with a katana, believing that he dishonored his ancestors.

What Prevents Him from Pure Evil?

He just wanted to hang out mane

He just wanted to hang out mane

While it is undeniably twisted, he did genuinely want to spend time with Allan and build a bond with him, even if it is that messed up. This is shown to be even more genuine when they are playing Burnout: Revenge for the PS2, where he encourages Allan to be better even as if he is talking shit to him.

DISHONOR

DISHONOR

While it is played for laughs, he has great respect for his ancestors. This is shown after his plan was foiled, he tried to take his life by stabbing his katana through his stomach after feeling as though he dishonored them. There is no clear pragmatic reason on saying this either, as he genuinely respects to the point that will take his own life if he felt he failed them.

Final Verdict?

I'm thinking a YES here, I will play Burnout: Revenge of the PS2 as you guys decide on him.
