Weak mortal. Demon power does not course through your veins. Yet, you try… How dare you strike ME!? You will regret… being born useless and human. I will show you… your worst nightmares! I will give you… despair and death!
~ Urizen before battling Nero
I have no recollection of this tale, or this place. It's all an illusion, created by this extraordinary fruit. Its power, you see, is all I ever wanted. And with this... I will have EVERYTHING!
~ Urizen to Dante before eating the Qliphoth Fruit.

Urizen, also known as the Nefarious Usurper, is the main antagonist of the 2019 action-adventure game Devil May Cry 5.

When Vergil was seriously injured and tried to heal himself, it split him into two beings, one is his human side V and his demonic side Urizen. Now he tries to become omnipotent, destroy humanity and rule the Demon World.

He was voiced by Daniel Southworth.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While Urizen might be part of Vergil, he is still technically a different being (just like how V is too) as all he represents is the evil in Vergil, and lacks any redeeming qualities he has.
  • He summons the Qliphoth tree and roots in the middle of Redgrave City in order to gain more power.
  • He caused widespread mass murder and destruction in Redgrave city. Both in the cutscenes and throughout most of the levels, we see many roots from the Qliphoth tree all around the city, plenty of destroyed buildings and many people dying on screen from the roots as well as many dead people in the levels whose lives have been sucked up.
  • At the start of the game, he brutally beats up Dante and Nero and nearly kills them, even breaking Dante’s Rebellion sword.
  • After defeating Trish and Lady, he uses them as a way to gain more strength, trapping them in the body of demons to use as an enslaved, brainwashed pawn. We saw the two weak and in pain after they got rescued.
  • After killing thousands to maybe even millions of people, in mission 17, he eats the Qliphoth fruit from the Qliphoth tree, a fruit that contains the blood of all the humans he killed and absorbed using the roots, in order to become the next Devil King just like Mundus did.
  • He hates all humans, seeing them as inferior and weak beings who deserve to suffer and perish.
  • He doesn't even care about other demons and has no problem killing them if they oppose him.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He has moral agency issues, as he is purely Vergil’s lust for power incarnated and lacks almost all of his memories. Urizen wants power simply for the sake of it, not knowing why or what he will do with it. He also struggles to understand how and why Dante is so powerful, the reason being Dante has good in him. However Urizen still has awareness of his actions and does show to have a personality, still being able to speak, think and vaguely remembers Dante.
