“ | I am the future. C'mon, Bonnie, don't run away from happiness. I'm going to fix you, and then I'm going to fix that sniveling gum wad, Neddy. | „ |
~ Uncle Gumbald to Bonnie |
Uncle Gumbald, also simply known as Gumbald or the Punch Bowl, is one of the two final antagonists (alongside GOLB) of Adventure Time, serving as a cameo character from Seasons 1 to 9 and the main antagonist of Season 10, appearing as the secondary antagonist of the series finale "Come Along with Me".
He is a creation of Princess Bubblegum, created to be her uncle, but later became power hungry, wanting to create a kingdom where he would control everything, so he decided to eliminate or neutralize anyone who could prevent that, but he was stopped by Bonnie and transformed into Punch Bowl. However, Gumbald would later be himself again thanks to Patience St. Pim's actions and would try to make a war against the Candy Kingdom.
He was voiced by Fred Melamed.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He tried to use the Dum Dum Juice on his creator/"niece" Bonnibel Bubblegum to remove her memories and transform her into a mindless candy person, as well as threatening to do the same to her brother Neddy.
- He betrayed Aunt Lolly and Cousin Bubblegum by using the Dum Dum Juice on them.
- He attempted to trick Bonnie into thinking he wanted to make peace with her, even though he actually wanted to use the Dum Dum Juice on her, by covering Finn and Jake in it for them to hug her. The above of those actions would cause Cousin Chicle and Peppermint Buttler to be affected by the Dum Dum Juice.
- In regards to Peppermint Buttler, this led him to restart his interest in magic at a young age to the point of later attending Wizard City to relearn everything he had known, which would put him at the mercy of Dr. Caledonius and her Coconteppi-worshipping cult.
- He would start a war against the Candy Kingdom, which would have likely claimed countless of lives from both sides.
- He would make Bonnie believe that he felt remorse for his actions, to try to use Dum Dum Juice on her again, but was luckily stopped by Aunt Lolly, causing him to transform into Punch Bowl again.
- Although he arguably redeemed himself after transforming back into Punch Bowl, it should be noted that he only dropped his war-mongering ambitions due to the Dum Dum Juice forcing him into a mindless candy person again and not of his own volition, making his redemption forced.
- Although he protected Aunt Lolly from being splashed with Dum Dum juice, it was out of pragmatism so that she could still help him in the Gum War.
- Although he acted affable towards Finn, It was a deception for drizzle it with Dum Dum juice and thus get rid of Bonnibel .
- Although he no longer tries to betray Aunt Lolly and Chicle it was only because they were useful minions to him. This is already demonstrated that although he was surprised when Chicle was sprayed with Dum Dum juice, he wasn't really worried about him despite him being his 'son'.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has a few moments where he is not taken seriously. Examples would be his transformations into the Punch Bowl, his failed army made of baby Finn's teeth, and his defeat in which the potion he planned to backstab Bubblegum exploded for no reason.
Trivia[]
- According to Kent Osborn, Jack Pendarvis and Ghostshrimp, had the tenth season of Adventure Time been larger, it was planned for Uncle Gumbald to appear in more episodes starring him, which could have affected his status as Near Pure Evil. His comedic moments might not affect him, which may have made him Pure Evil or he might've even redeemed himself thus becoming Inconsistently Heinous.
