I loved Elisabet more than you could ever know. And I let her stay behind to die with the rest of humanity - a mistake I have regretted for a thousand years. Now she stands before me again. Not some inferior copy, but her best possible self.
~ Tilda revealing her plans to kidnap Aloy and leave Earth at the hands of Nemesis.

Tilda van der Meer is a major antagonist in the Horizon franchise, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Gerard Bieri) of Horizon Forbidden West.

She is a member of the Far Zenith, an Old World think tank organisation, who joins with its leader Gerard Bieri and the other member Erik Visser to locate the AI GAIA and steal it, in order to terraform another planet to their liking to escape the rogue AI Nemesis.

Centuries ago, Tilda harboured intense regret over leaving Sobeck to Earth when the Faro Plague struck, causing Tilda to later encounter the Sobeck clone, Aloy, showing interest on her.

She was voiced by Carrie-Anne Moss.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Tilda is considered to be disloyal to both sides, whom she only joins Far Zenith in an attempt to get Aloy on Earth in the present-time, and with her defecting on Aloy's side to gain her trust, before she subsequently betrays both of them for her own goals.
  • While Tilda seems altruistic on the outside at first, going so far in helping Aloy's team out on an all-out assault to Bieri's Zenith base and killing Bieri later, Tilda is later revealed to be a selfish traitor who only allied with them to win Aloy's trust. It is evidenced when she betrays them, including Beta whom she calls her as Sobeck's "inferior copy", after Nemesis was revealed.
  • Forced Aloy to betray her own allies to achieve her own end goal of escaping the planet through the Odyssey with her, in spite of the countless lives that would be perished at the hands of Nemesis, including human, floral and faunal life.
  • Tried to kill and kidnap Aloy with the Specter Prime exoframe for refusing her offer, thus making her one of the more personal villains to Aloy, due to her more personal conflict towards her.
  • She shows a certain degree of respect for Aloy and Sylens for their own prowess. However, judging by Tilda's actions later on, this is simply just considered to be pragmatism and a façade where she only uses this said respect to hide her true intentions until the end of the game.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Tilda's relationship with Sobeck, while it soon bordered to complete obsession as shown near the end of Forbidden West, was played for minor sympathy. It was one of the few reasons for Tilda's descent to obsession towards Aloy, as she regretted leaving her on Earth after the Faro Plague reached its peak.
  • She was the main reason for the restoration of the APOLLO subfunction to GAIA, centuries after Faro's destruction of the APOLLO archives from his successful purge. Her ironic efforts restored the long-lost Old World knowledge to humanity, nine centuries later.
