Dr. Thomas Wayne is one of the overarching antagonists of Batman: The Telltale Series.
He was a Gotham based billionaire and the father of Bruce Wayne. When he and his wife Martha were murdered by Joe Chill, it inspired their son to pursue a life of crime-fighting. During the events of the series, it is revealed that he had ties to the Falcone Crime Family and the corrupt city Mayor Hamilton Hill.
Like his son, he was voiced by Troy Baker, who also voiced Brainiac in Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and Renga in Naruto.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He, alongside Carmine Falcone and Hamilton Hill, was responsible for a lot of organized crime in Gotham City.
- He and Hill had Esther Cobblepot committed to Arkham Asylum and driven insane with a drug for refusing to hand over her family's land to them. This would cause Esther's husband to commit suicide and made her son, Oswald, become the criminal Penguin.
- Began using his power to commit dozens of innocent people to Arkham, for life in some cases.
- When the Arkhams discovered his crimes and threatened to report him to the police, he had them murdered which would lead to their daughter, Vicki, becoming Lady Arkham.
- His actions have a big impact on the story and he is responsible for a lot of the suffering that Bruce goes through during the game as well as several of the villains he faces as well as many deaths, due to directly creating Lady Arkham and Penguin, whose actions directly created Two-Face.
- Despite the game's high heinous standards, it might look like he fails, but that's no true at all, cause he actually passes them. Because of his actions of being the one responsible for all the organized crime and corruption of Gotham, driving Esther Cobblepot into insanity and imprisoning her in Arkham Asylum, murdering the Arkham's, and his death, lead to Gotham becoming the crime-ridden city it is today, and Oswald, Vicki Vale, and Two-Face into the monsters they are today. His death also caused Bruce Wayne to become the vigilante, Batman, which makes him responsible for all the pain and suffering he goes through as Batman.
- While most versions of Thomas Wayne, such as his Joker and Batman movie counterparts, were misguided and sympathetic individuals, this version of Thomas Wayne is a cruel full-on villain who is seemingly devoid of any of the redeeming qualities he has in the other versions and is said to be the worst according to Carmine Falcone. And while being shot and killed by Joe Chill is played for sympathy in other versions, this one absolutely deserved it for his crimes.
- Even if it was played for sympathy due to being shot and killed by Joe Chill, the rest of the sympathy goes to his wife (who was a good person despite being married to him) and Bruce (who genuinely cared and loved his parents which was why he became Batman in the first place).
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- His love for his son and wife was completely genuine. He did his best to keep Bruce in the dark about his criminal activities, always gave him what he wanted and tried to protect him and Martha when Joe Chill arrived to kill them. According to Alfred, Thomas never wanted Bruce to follow in his footsteps and wanted his son to be a good person.
Trivia[]
- He's the only major version of Thomas Wayne to be Near Pure Evil as all other versions are too heroic and/or sympathetic to qualify.
- Due to his ties to the Gotham mob, he shares some similarities with the incarnation of the character from the 2022 movie The Batman. Unlike his Telltale incarnation, however, this version of Thomas Wayne hardly qualifies as Near Pure Evil (or even a villain, for that matter) as his partnership with Carmine Falcone was said to be purely pragmatic and that he was otherwise a good man. Though he was indirectly responsible for the death of the journalist, Edward Elliot (who was planning to expose him and his wife's secrets), he didn't actually mean for Falcone to kill him, having ordered the mobster to simply threaten him, making Elliot's death an unfortunate accident on his part.
