“ | Great Embodiment of Chaos, hear me! For ages untold, I studied your ways, devoting my existence to you. I strove to be your vassal, on the physical plain. The Extinct World version of the Lich, also known as Jerry, is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside GOLB) of the 2023 MAX adult animated television series Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, a spin-off of the original Adventure Time cartoon.
He is an alternate incarnation from the eponymous creature that did succeed at wiping out all life in his home reality, presumably by wishing for it to Prismo, making his universe known as the Extinct World. However, this caused the Extinct World's Lich to fall into a depressed state due to no longer having a purpose, leading him to lay dormant until the prime universe's Simon Petrikov, Fionna Campbell and Cake the Cat visit his world.
Like his other counterparts, he was voiced by Ron Perlman, who also voiced Warhok in Kim Possible and Sozin in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Presumably shared most of the crimes his Prime World counterpart committed, like possessing Princess Bubblegum, murdering Billy the Hero and usurping his body, up to the moment where he got access to the Time Room.
- Unlike his prime counterpart, this version of the Lich succeeded at wiping out all life in his universe by wishing for that to Prismo. This resulted in all organic life dying (with the exception of BMO, who as a robot, isn't organic).
- Although this happens offscreen, the lack of any living beings in the world, the video recording of the Ice King and Gunter suddenly perishing and the tons of skeletons where the Lich rests when he is first seen are enough onscreen evidence to prove devastation happened and has a lot of impact, given how BMO misses his friends to the point of even wearing Princess Bubblegum's crown and acting like her to remember her.
- Ends up falling into a depressed state and regrets having killed all life, but instead of feeling like that out of genuine remorse for his actions, the Lich is more despondent at the fact that he now lacks a purpose and all he has is an eternity of loneliness at his den. His deserved solitude is what leads him to "befriend" BMO, whom he likely tolerates due to being the only company he has (assuming he is even awake when BMO "bonds" with him in the first place), and to refrain himself from killing the prime universe's Simon Petrikov when he and his friends find his den.
- Gets the idea to follow Simon Petrikov and Scarab as they open a portal to GOLB's dimension so he can ask his master what he can do now to stop feeling purposeless and if he has pleased him.
- Although BMO calling him “Jerry” could be seen as comedic, it does not detract from his seriousness since it is before it is revealed that Jerry is the Lich and is taken completely seriously and with horror after its revelation .
- Demands an answer to GOLBetty when they ignore him, wishing to know what else he can do to feel satisfied with his omnicidal killing spree, possibly hinting at his willingness to kill more if that pleased GOLB.
- His loyalty towards GOLB isn't genuine. Although the death and destruction he causes is to please him, it's because he expects to be rewarded for it, not understanding that GOLB's true purpose is to simply spread chaos wherever he goes. When he's not satisfied after he erases all life in his world, he angrily lashes out at him for it, showing that his "loyalty" is just blind fanaticism.
- While he suffers an awful fate of being reduced to a screaming head, his bones turning into a Tetris-like block and being either killed for good or imprisoned inside it for eternity, this doesn't make him a scapegoat, as he deserved it for ridding the Extinct World of all its life.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- His defeat and presumed death, although warranted, was played for some sympathy as he failed to realize that GOLB never wanted anything from him and that his omnicidal killing spree would not bring him any sense of purpose, with Simon Petrikov feeling pity for him due to failing to find his place in the world.
Trivia[]
- So far, the Extinct World's Lich is the only version of The Lich to be Near Pure Evil, with his minor sympathetic fate being the only thing that prevents him from counting as Pure Evil like his Prime World and his Farmworld counterparts.
- It's theorized that this Lich may actually be the original one if we assume that he was sent to this reality after wishing for all life's extinction to Prismo in the Adventure Time episode "Finn the Human". If it were confirmed, this would reveal that the Prime World's Lich is Near Pure Evil due to his sympathetic fate, thus also making the Farmworld's Lich the only one with no sympathetic fate.
- He has the highest kill count out of all the Adventure Time near pure evil villains.
