The Batter is the main protagonist of the 2008 RPG OFF by Martin Georis, better known as Mortis Ghost.
The Batter is a devout being whose stated mission is to purify the world by eliminating those responsible for corrupting it, namely the spectres and Zone guardians. He is aided in this mission by an extradimensional being who directs his movements and strengthens him. As revealed later on, his true mission is to eliminate all life in the world and the world itself, seemingly believing that this is the only way to free everyone from their suffering.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close To Being Pure Evil?[]
- He goes on a quest to "purify" the world by destroying all life in it from existence as what he's purifying are the souls of the people.
- Despite the sureal and absurd nature of the game, he's taken dead seriously during the entire game, not having one single comedic moment.
- Due to purifying Dedan, he would do the same to all of Zone 1, turning it into nothing but a barren wasteland filled with a lack of life.
- He would keep going on to his quest and defeat Japhet, the Guardian of Zone 2.
- What makes this worse is that Valerie, the brother of the Judge, is still part of Japhet's body, meaning he killed the brother of one of his allies.
- He can also kill Sugar in Zone 0 who isn't even needed to be killed to finish his quest, and she also either knows or is friends with Zacharie, the merchant who provides the Batter tools.
- While he shows no genuine malice towards the Elsens, he shows no care towards them either. Allowing them all to die out after he purifies each zone they inhabit, and having no trouble killing any Burnt Elsen that he comes across.
- Even when Enoch warns him that he isn't saving the Zones but is destroying them instead, and if he dies, everyone in the zone would die, he still purifies the zone without hesitation.
- He then killed the Queen and his creator, Hugo, who is also an ill infant baby.
- He'd fight the Judge and can either succeed in killing him with the Player's assistance or fail in killing him and die himself with the Player assisting the Judge instead.
- If the Player does end up aiding the Judge, in his defeat, he'd tell him that "it's too late. everything is lost," knowing very well what he's doing is wrong.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]
- He's a well-intentioned extremist, as he genuinely wants to punish the Queen for her negligence towards Zone Guardians caused the world's chaotic state, and tries to "purifying" the world and believes there's no other way he could do to fix it, even if he knows what he's doing is wrong.
- When killing Hugo and The Queen, he mentions how there will be no more darkness or pain, which could maybe imply he's trying to do it to save everyone from living a miserable life, although this is still omnicide and a bad thing in-universe.
Trivia[]
- The Batter shares some similarities with Niko, a character from another RPG Maker game, as both are assigned to a sacred mission to change the world, aware of their actions are affected by an extradimensional being and are antagonized by a cat-like entity.
- Ironically, The Batter is Near Pure Evil and Niko is Near Pure Good.
