Soon it will be you who comes begging to me.
~ Mrs. Sylvia Ganush's last words to Christine Brown.

Mrs. Sylvia Ganush is the secondary antagonist of the 2009 satirical horror film Drag Me to Hell.

She is the one who summoned the Lamia to seek retribution against the young loan officer Christine Brown. Thanks to Ganush's actions, the plot of the film is kickstarted.

She was portrayed by Lorna Raver.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She attacks Christine Brown in her car before stealing one of her buttons in order to carry out an satanic ritual that will damn her to Hell for eternity.
    • Because of this, Christine suffers from hallucinations, nightmares and paranormal events during three days.
    • In addition, Christine attempts to perform an exorcism session in order to break the curse, which resulted in the death of the clairvoyant Shaun San Dena.
    • Finally, after the three days, Christine is literally dragged to Hell in front of the eyes of her boyfriend, carrying out Sylva's revenge.
  • She doesn't receive any punishment for her actions as she died a natural death during the film, making her a Karma Houdini.
  • Although she has several comedic moments in the film, most of it is hallucinations of her and her actions are taken seriously in-universe.
  • The reason why she damned Christine just because she refused her a new loan for her house is far too petty because even if Christine agreed to give a new loan, this does not justify her actions because:
    • Sylvia could not have known that Christine had the possibility of accepting a new loan.
    • She had other places to live like in her niece's house where she could go to a retirement home.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • One of the reasons Sylvia refused to move in with her granddaughter was so as not to disturb her. This shows that she has care or her granddaughter. The fact that there were a lot of people at her funeral shows that her family really loved her and she probably was nice to them in return.

Trivia[]

  • It's speculated that Sylvia Ganush may have been one of the Romani who cursed the Mexican boy Juan with the same curse as Christine Brown's during the 1969 prologue. If this were confirmed, it would make Sylvia even worse.
