Come closer, child. So much strength. Darkness rises and light to meet it. I warned my young apprentice that as he grew stronger, his equal in the light would rise.
~ Snoke, to Rey.
You think you can turn him? Pathetic child... I cannot be betrayed... I cannot be beaten. I see his mind... I see his every intent. Yes... I see him turning the lightsaber to strike true! And now... foolish child... he ignites it... and KILLS HIS TRUE ENEMY!!!
~ Snoke's final words before his death.

Supreme Leader Snoke is one of the main antagonists of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Snoke is the Supreme Leader of the First Order that sought to destroy Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi.

He was portrayed by Andy Serkis, who also voiced the Witch-king of Angmar in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • It has been heavily implied that he killed his rivals in the past to get greater power.
  • Saved the remnants of the Galactic Empire, turning it into the First Order.
  • He had the First Order kidnap countless children and force them to be stormtroopers (Finn was one such person).
  • He whispered thoughts in Ben Solo's head to persuade him to join the dark side of the Force.
  • He manipulated Ben Solo into letting him think his uncle had betrayed him, in which Ben thought so when Luke almost tried to kill young Solo.
    • He even went so far as to make Ben Solo think his whole family had betrayed him and persuaded him to betray his Jedi friends and to kill Ren, making him become the new leader of the Knights of Ren.
  • He was extremely abusive to Ben Solo when he became Kylo Ren, even going so far as to smack Kylo Ren in the face and use Force lightning on him when he showed defiance.
  • He emotionally played with Kylo Ren, telling him that his family will never take him back after all he has done.
  • He ordered the First Order to find the map that leads to the location of Luke Skywalker, with the agents of the First Order killing dozens of innocent individuals to get what they want.
  • He commanded Kylo Ren to kill his own father, Han Solo, in order to fully succumb to the dark side.
    • This eventually resulted in Kylo successfully killing his own father, which made the conflict in Kylo even worse. Because he was emotionally unbalanced, Kylo ended up losing to Rey at Starkiller Base.
    • In fact, Snoke got angry at Kylo Ren for his failure, thinking of him as a disappointment and didn't care of Kylo's pleads for his master; even after Kylo had sacrificed everything he had to prove his loyalty to his master, Snoke didn't care.
  • He ordered General Armitage Hux to fire on the Hosnian system and the New Republic fleet. Because of this, Hux fired on the Hosnian system, killing billions and maybe even trillions of people.
    • What makes things worse is that the planets that Starkiller Base fired on were worldwide metropolis's, which housed billions, maybe trillions, of innocent people, and they all were annihilated because of Snoke's actions.
  • He ordered Hux to fire on the Resistance base; had they succeeded, more lives would have been lost.
    • Plus, while Hux insisted they just fire on the Resistance base, Snoke orders Hux to fire on the whole system like they did to the Hosnian system, as he wanted to spread fear and send a message to the galaxy. Had it been fired, many lives that had nothing to do with the Resistance would have been lost.
  • When Starkiller Base was on the verge of exploding and Hux informed Snoke of the tragedy that was happening, Snoke did not care and simply told Hux to leave Starkiller Base with Kylo Ren. Snoke didn't care if many of his followers died and only wanted the ones useful to him to escape.
  • He Force choked General Hux in front of his officers, humiliating him in front of them.
  • He mocked Kylo for his failure, calling him a "child in a mask," to the point where Kylo smashed his helmet.
  • It's implied that he ordered Hux to fire on the escaping Resistance ships, killing dozens of individuals.
    • While it may not be the case that he ordered Hux to fire those ships, he still was okay with it as he showed Rey through the window in his throne room how the Resistance is dying and there is nothing to save them.
  • He manipulated Rey and Kylo's Force-bond, manipulating their vulnerabilities and using both to make Rey fall into a trap so that he could locate Luke.
  • Mocked Rey of how her friends and allies are dying.
  • When learning of Luke's location on the island of Ach-To, he planned to bomb the entire island, just to kill Skywalker.
    • What makes it worse is that the island houses a village of sapient beings, known as the caretakers. Had Snoke bombed the island, he would have committed yet another mass murder.
  • He painfully tortured Rey in front of Kylo and then ordered him to kill her.
  • Taunted Rey that he will never be betrayed by Kylo Ren, which eventually led to his brutal yet well-deserved downfall.
  • Though Snoke was killed when getting cut in two by Kylo Ren, he deserved it due to all of the horrible actions he has done and because he is also responsible for Kylo Ren's villainy.
  • Even after Snoke's death, his influence on Kylo lives on. Whenever Kylo feels like he needs to change, he hallucinates Snoke's voice in his head, mocking him and telling him no one would accept him.
  • Despite the high Heinous Standards of Star Wars canon, Snoke stands out due to having not as many resources as Emperor Palpatine but yet still orchestrating the deaths of billions of people in the Hosnian system.
  • He has no true redeeming qualities.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Though Snoke is his own entity and has free will and control over almost all of his actions, he still has moral agency issues due to Palpatine's manipulation over him. As Palpatine partially controls Snoke by disguising himself as a subconscious voice in Snoke's head, telling him of some things he must do. Also, Palpatine gave Snoke some false memories, making him think he is an ancient being, and Snoke can't even fathom that there is a greater power than him.

Trivia[]

  • In an interview with Empire when The Last Jedi was released, Andy Serkis once pointed out that Snoke is a "bloody dark, way darker" character than Emperor Palpatine or Darth Vader, who are Pure Evil and Inconsistently Heinous, respectively. That said, Serkis also hinted at Snoke possibly having some moral agency issues due to being riddled with osteoporosis that makes his incredible damaged body "twisted" like a corkscrew that makes him have an intense hatred for his bizarre vulnerability. Either way, the original plans for Snoke's characters were likely dropped once J.J. Abrams returned to direct The Rise of Skywalker and retconned Snoke into a pawn of Palpatine.
  • Snoke is the only villain in the Star Wars canon who has the highest kill count (other than Emperor Palpatine), as he ordered the destruction of city-covered planets in the Hosnian System.
