The Stag, also referred to as the Freak Deer, is the main antagonist of the Adventure Time episode "No One Can Hear You.”
He is a sugar craving deer who one day attacks the Candy Kingdom in order to get it from its people and leaves Finn and Jake incapacitated for six months. He is considered to be one of the darkest and most terrifying villains in the entire show.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- When Princess Bubblegum rejected his request for sugar, he decided to take it by force and storm the Kingdom, attacking anyone who stood in his way.
- When fighting Finn and Jake, the Stag kicks Jake in the head twice, which gives him enough brain damage that would cause him to go completely insane, and breaks Finn's legs in a gruesome fashion and knocks him into a pole, which results in both of them being incapacitated for six months.
- While Finn and Jake are incapacitated, the Stag manages to capture all of the Candy People in the sewers by licking them and sticking them to the walls just to have their sugar. They're shown to be moaning in pain, so it's strongly indicated that they have been tortured for a long period of time.
- He attempts to kill Finn when he tries to save the Candy People.
- Unlike many deer seen in the show, the Stag shows intelligence and sapience, and seems to have clear goals.
- He is one of the series most terrifying and darkest villains, and unlike most of the shows' villains barring The Lich, the Stag has no comedic moments and few redeeming qualities, with his presence and human-like hands only deriving moments of nightmare fuel. In addition, even his gestures with his fingers well imply his sinister nature. While one can argue his defeat is somewhat comedic on account of him falling over and his leitmotif suddenly stopping, it could be a sign his terror is over.
- Although the show's Heinous Standards are extremely high, the Stag manages to stand out with his very limited resources of only himself and his grounded abilities.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Although he does show some sapience and somewhat clear goals, he lacks enough clear characterization to be Pure Evil.
- He is seen clapping for LSP with the rest of Ooo, implying he was genuinely grateful to be free from his elemental form.
Trivia[]
- In the video game Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know!, the Stag shows up as a common enemy whose only goal seems to be to stop the protagonists, so that version can't be considered Near Pure Evil for an even further lack of characterization as well as being a bog-standard "Kill the Heroes" villain.
