~ Shockwave to Starscream when talking about one of his inventions. |
Shockwave is a major antagonist in the 2010 animated series Transformers Prime.
He is the scientist of the Decepticons and one of Megatron's right-hands, with his notable inventions being the Cortial Psychic Patch, Predacons, and a restored Omega Lock. He is also shown to have a common rivalry with fellow right-hand Starscream, despite saving him after Megatron's death.
He is voiced by David Sobolov who also voiced Kaido in One Piece.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- Despite the Series' high Heinous Standards, Shockwave still stands out due to being an active participant in the atrocities committed by the Decepticons through inventing the exact devices that when combined, would endanger billions of lives, with the addition of killing most of the Predacons, which was a personal atrocity to Predaking.
- His "loyalty" to Megatron isn't genuine as the only reason he served Megatron was because he admired his logical thinking, and he nevertheless was willing to turn against the latter whenever logic dictates such. In addition, Shockwave acts nonchalantly to Megatron's death as compared to Starscream (despite not being truly loyal either).
- While he has several comedic moments like his rivalry with Starscream and the two being crammed inside an escape pod, they are not too frequent to be detracting and his crimes regardless are still played seriously enough.
- Unlike Megatron who exiled himself, and Starscream and Soundwave being imprisoned, Shockwave manages to be a Karma Houdini as he is never given a comeuppance to his crimes.
Season 2[]
- He created the Cortial Psychic Patch, on a captive Arcee to extract information regarding Optimus Prime's message to the Autobots, causing her to get mind raped in the process.
- Threatens to have Cliffjumper be subjected to the same torture after he interrupted the torture on Arcee.
- Gives away Cliffjumper to Starscream so that the latter can torture him.
- Attempted to kill Arcee and Cliffjumper when they tried to return to Earth, only for him to get his lens blasted.
Season 3[]
- He threatened Starscream to demand an explanation on why he was left behind on Cybertron (Although he would back off after Starscream gave a "logical explanation") .
- Proceeds to use the Cortial Psychic Patch to torture Wheeljack during his interrogation, even though the latter did manage to escape.
- Created dozens of Predacons clones, including Predaking, to assist Megatron in his plans of conquering and devastating Earth.
- Used Wheeljack's split Energon to help Predaking hunt down the Autobots and released him again once the Autobots began to attack the Decepticons.
- During the attack on Darkmount, Shockwave managed to capture Bulkhead and Wheeljack, while several Vehicons captured Arcee and Bumblebee, with them attempting to have the Autobots executed.
- During the quest to look for more remains of the Predacons, Shockwave attacks Optimus Prime, Bumblee and Smokescreen when they intend to sabotage the plan.
- Upon the Predacons having discovered to gain more sapience, Shockwave and the other Decepticons intended to destroy them, despite having created them. This angered Predaking, who blamed it on the Autobots.
- Upon discovering that Cybermatter was formed as a result of the fight between Ultra Magnus and Wheeljack in Shockwave's laboratory, he and the other Decepticons had the plan to rebuild the Omega Lock (which he specifically was assigned to), which would result in cyberforming planets that would ultimately kill off the inhabitants.
- While Shockwave saw the plan as illogical, this is hypocritical as he still went along with the destructive plan without hesitating.
- Confronted Starscream by forcefully threatening him near the Cybermatter until the latter confessed about how the current plan wouldn't have worked had the "Autobots" not destroyed the Predacon clones. However, this act is more justified compared to his other crimes as Starscream had still abandoned Shockwave on Cybertron.
- Attacked Ultra Magnus and Wheeljack once more before ordering Predaking to do the same.
- After Ratchet gets kidnapped, Shockwave uses the Cortial Psychic Patch on the latter before temporarily allying with him so that the Synthetic Energon Formula needed for the initiation of the Omega Lock becomes complete.
- He and Starscream proceed to fight the Autobots who attempt to stop the Omega Lock from cyberforming Earth, before he gets knocked out by Bumblebee.
Predacons Rising[]
- Re-cloned Skylynx and Darksteel along with Starscream, with the two having planned to recreate a Predacon Army to conquer Cybertron.
- Upon seeing a Predacon boneyard, Shockwave and Starscream plan to use the fossils for their cloning attempts before being interfered by a possessed Megatron.
- While he does prompt for his cloned Predacons to team up with the Autobots to stop Unicron from destroying Cybertron, it is not redeeming as Unicron is seen as an illogical threat to Shockwave's plan, and it's also impossible to claim that he "redeems" himself as he is not seen after that scene.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is seemingly affable to Ratchet, as he does not react in a hostile way whenever the two temporarily co-operate to complete the Synthetic Energon Formula, and even refers to him as a "guest" in a non-sadistic tone when leaving Knock Out to supervise him, suggesting he has some respect for him for being a fellow scientist.
- Despite his rivalry with Starscream, he still has a "Pet the Dog" moment where he stops the latter from attempting to suicidally avenge Megatron and shares an escape pod with him before the two share a base to initiate their plans to make a new Predacon army.
Trivia[]
- He is the only Transformers Near Pure Evil to come from the Aligned Continuity.
