~ Shockwave before crushing Blurr into a cube

Shockwave, also known as Longarm while disguised as an Autobot, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Starscream) of the Cartoon Network animated series Transformers: Animated.

He is a Decepticon double-agent planted on Cybertron among the Autobots, and one of Megatron's most loyal followers along with Lugnut while also being one of his most ruthless.

He was voiced by Corey Burton, who also voiced Megatron in the same show, his G1 counterpart, Lythos and Stratos in Hercules, Cad Bane in the Star Wars franchise, Brainiac in LEGO DC Super-Villains and Nitros Oxide in the Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled remake.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Most of the time, he lacks the comedic traits most of the other Decepticons have aside from his master Megatron, taken much seriously than most of the villains. Even Starscream had his own share of comedic and funny moments despite being Pure Evil.
  • While planted among the Autobots' boot camp cadets at the beginning of his subterfuge for the Decepticons, Shockwave as Longarm framed fellow cadet Wasp as the traitor to cover his own tracks after Bumblebee had sniffed out that there was a Decepticon spy in the camp, manipulating Bumblebee into getting Wasp incarcerated. This would lead to Wasp being wrongfully imprisoned for stellar cycles and driven into insanity and would cause him to attack Bumblebee stellar cycles later and later turned into a Predacon by Blackarachnia.
  • He assassinated his predecessor, Highbrow Prime, to become Chief of Cybertronian Intel.
  • He freed the insane Wasp from prison as a decoy while he initiated Decepticon uprisings all across the galaxy, causing mass chaos, battles and multiple casualties in order to facilitate Megatron's secret plan to forcibly take control of Cybertron from the Autobots.
  • He allowed the use of chemical weapons like the dangerous cosmic rust to be used in the Autobot-Decepticon battles he and Megatron indirectly instigated.
  • When Blurr returned to Cybertron with information that Wasp wasn't the Decepticons' double agent and news of a definitive way to identify the real spy, Shockwave immediately moved to dispose of him.
  • He ultimately crushed and compacted Blurr into a cube before disposing of him.
    • While tie-in materials reveal that Blurr survived being compacted, it's still a rather brutal and horrific way to almost die to. Even then, Blurr's survival actually made this worse, as Shockwave's actions had left Blurr alive, conscious, and aware of his surroundings, but unable to do anything for a long time until the Autobots discovered him and placed his spark in a new body.
  • He delivered a brutal beatdown to Ultra Magnus and mortally wounded him to the point he was severely mutilated and slipped into a coma and stealing his hammer doing so.
    • What makes it worse is that Ultra Magnus would ultimately die from his injuries in the unproduced Season 4.
  • He kidnapped Arcee and probed her damaged mind to extract the Activation Codes for Project Omega, intending to use them to activate mass destructive Omega Supreme clones for Megatron to use against Earth.
  • When Lugnut accidentally falls down, he didn’t even bother to help him up and instead laughed at him while he’s struggling to get up.
  • When Arcee became cognizant enough to realize she was in the Decepticons' hands and refused to give up the codes, Shockwave promptly "extracted [them] manually" in a process which caused Arcee to scream in pain before rendering her inert again.
  • Using the codes, he made Lugnut the Omega Supreme clones' template and placed him in control over the clones, happily ensuring Megatron's plan to annihilate the entire city of Detroit as a "test run" of the clones could go ahead.
  • As shown in "Return of Blurr," he created a fail-safe program called Kremzeek to destroy Cybertron (despite once living there) in case the Decepticons ever lost.
  • Although he befriended Bumblebee as Longarm in boot camp, he was ultimately using Bumblebee as nothing more than an unwitting pawn to frame Wasp and throw the Autobots off his scent, playing on Bumblebee's ego whereas before he'd derided the young bot. Stellar cycles later, Shockwave openly mocked Bumblebee with the revelation that he was the real spy, and Bumblebee had unwittingly sentenced an innocent Autobot, and he showed no compunctions against trying to kill Bumblebee and Bulkhead when they later fought on Earth's moon.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is genuinely loyal to Megatron. He risked his life massively for stellar cycles as a double agent at the heart of Cybertron's leadership in order to help Megatron win, and he expressed his pleasure at serving Megatron under his true colors and fighting by his side once more after his long-term cover had ended.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only villain from Transformers: Animated to be Near Pure Evil.
  • He, the Prime and Cyberverse incarnation are the only three incarnations of Shockwave to be Near Pure Evil so far.
    • Coincidently, all of them are Magnificent Baddies.
  • Revealed plans for Season 4 would have revealed that he, Blitzwing, and Lugnut would turned against Megatron to help the Autobots take him down due to his treatment of them in the Trial of Megatron (who he sacrificed them to be rocket fuel for his Kaon City Ship). Had Season 4 been produced, Shockwave would have been Inconsistently Heinous due to him redeeming himself and changing for the better.
