His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- At some other point, he conquered Edenia and took the princess of the Realm Kitana as his daughter.
- At the end of the first film, Shao Kahn is shown brutally torturing Shang Tsung for his failure and getting his forces ready to invade Earthrealm.
- Leads his army into battle against Earthrealm with many of his forces dying in the fight and states that he will keep sending his soldiers to their deaths for as long as it takes.
- During the tournament, multiple people are killed as a result of it including his own allies and enemies, something which Shao Kahn is responsible for. With Shao Kahn even getting in on the action personally by:
- Brutally beating up Jax Briggs to the point of near death
- Brutally killing Kung Lao right in front of Liu Kang and revelling in his kill.
- Killing Raiden at the end who dies right in Liu Kang's arms.
- It is made clear that Shao Kahn's goal to merge Earthrealm with Outworld will not be a pleasant fate for Earthrealm at all with most if not all of Earthrealm dying as a result of this.
- While Shao Kahn is not as explicitly overtly cruel as his game counterpart and is more restrained in his villainy. Instead of nearly executing Shang Tsung he only gives him a vicious beating, but he does willingly offer another tournament for Earthrealm to protect itself from attacks.
- However, this is not indicated to be out of anything more than pragmatism. Relenting on executing Shang Tsung could easily be seen as him not wanting to waste a valuable asset, and proposing the new tournament is more likely a way for him to preserve his own resources.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While it is not explicitly redeeming, due to Shao Kahn being more restrained in his villainy, he is not as bad as his canon counterpart and thus fails the Heinous Standards of the series. His actions amount to a few brutal kills, being willing to get his minions killed, and planning to merge Outworld with Earthrealm which is made clear is not going to be a very good fate for the realm.
- His crimes however pale in comparison to villains like Shinnok, Kano, and even arguably Quan Chi. Resources don't save him since Shao Kahn is an insanely powerful character with control over an entire realm, insane strength that allows him to take on characters like Raiden, and much more.
