Shang Tsung is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Quan Chi) of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge and the secondary antagonist of both Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms and Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind.

Shang Tsung is once again an evil sorcerer serving the Emperor of Outworld Shao Kahn. Shang Tsung shows up in the first film hosting the tournament for Shao Kahn so that he can invade and conquer Earthrealm. After Shang Tsung loses and gets a vicious beating from Shao Kahn for his failure, he returns in the second film to continue assisting Shao Kahn in his efforts to conquer Earthrealm.

Shang Tsung shows up again in the third film, now serving the "King" of the wastelands Kano while secretly plotting to overthrow him.

He was voiced by Artt Butler.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Hosts the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament on his island along with his champion Goro, to allow his master Shao Kahn to conquer Earthrealm like he has done to so many other realms before.
  • Shows off Goro by having him fight with a kidnapped Jax who Goro continues to beat up even long after Jax is clearly defeated and unable to fight, with Goro eventually ripping off Jax’s arms, which Shang Tsung enjoys it and orders Goro to finish Jax off.
  • Uses every method he has to make Earthrealm lose the tournament, most notably hiring the Black Dragon to eliminate the Earthrealm warriors.
  • He tried to kill Quan Chi, but this is because Quan Chi betrayed him by attempting to have him drink acid from a cup. Even though he recognizes that the fallen Elder God known as Shinnok was locked up for a good reason, he himself is no better than him.
  • He promised to let Scorpion kill Quan Chi and have his vengeance by having him agree to fight for Outworld by killing Liu Kang in kombat.
  • Assists Shao Kahn in the final Mortal Kombat tournament by having him and Raiden duel for the fate of Earthrealm.
  • Brutally kills Kurtis Styker by forcing him to rip off his own head.
  • After Earthrealm was destroyed by the revenants, Shang Tsung teams up with Kano and assists him in everything he does, but in reality is plotting against Kano.
  • After Kenshi is defeated Shang Tsung manipulates Kenshi by pretending to be a kind old man who wants to help him grow stronger. Shang Tsung leads Kenshi to the well of souls that was built by Kenshi’s ancestors, then has Kenshi open it which brings up a bunch of souls that blind Kenshi and Shang Tsung absorbs all the souls to gain back his power, which is up to hundreds at least. Shang Tsung then leaves Kenshi for dead while mocking him.
  • Attempts to overthrow Kano and take his place as King of the Wastelands. Shang Tsung fights with Kano with him killing several Black Dragon members in the process.
  • In the first two films though, Shang Tsung seems genuinely loyal to Shao Kahn this time. He is never shown plotting against Shao Kahn, follows every single one of his orders without question, and when Quan Chi tries to kill Shang Tsung, Shang Tsung scolds him for going against Shao Kahn’s orders. However, he subverts this in the third film, where he has abandoned Shao Kahn and is now working for Kano. Shang Tsung has also slipped back to his mainstream personality and is plotting against Kano and later tries to overthrow him. Shang Tsung makes no mention of Shao Kahn and seemingly doesn’t really seem to care at all, as he is now only focused on gaining power for himself and overthrowing Kano.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He fails the Heinous Standards to Quan Chi and Kano, who have done far worse with similar resources, but also to the Lin Kuei Grandmaster, whose brainwashing is unique for the series. Not to mention that he is a very powerful sorcerer and is shown to be even more powerful than Quan Chi, as he has a lot of resources yet doesn't use them to his fullest capacity.

Trivia[]

  • This is so far the only Near Pure Evil version of Shang Tsung.
