NOTE: This page is about the Sonic Boom incarnation of Shadow the Hedgehog as his mainline counterpart is not Near Pure Evil. Thus, only information about the Sonic Boom Shadow should be listed here. |
“ | Saving the world? You? Don't make me laugh. Youre weak. And you know what makes you weak? Your loyalty to your pathetic friends. | „ |
~ Shadow to Sonic in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, also his most infamous quote. |
Shadow the Hedgehog is a major antagonist in the Sonic Boom series.
He is Sonic the Hedgehog's sworn rival, often clashing with him or anyone who personally wrongs him, but in disproportionate levels. Believing that Sonic's friends are his weakness, Shadow often tries to prove his point by going after them to prove himself superior to the blue hedgehog, but once he is tricked by Dr. Eggman, Shadow resolves to target everyone out of frustration. He is considered by many to be much more violent and villainous than main series counterpart.
He was voiced by Kirk Thornton.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- Unlike his mainstream counterpart, who, while still possessing a number of corrupting qualities, contributes greatly to the protection of his world, this version of Shadow appears to care only about himself and fights villains only over personal conflicts.
- Also, it's unknown if he shares his mainstream counterpart's tragic backstory. And even if he has the same backstory, it can't excuse anything he's done.
- In Rise of Lyric, he tried to prevent Sonic from going into the past to stop Lyric the Last Ancient simply to prove to him that his friends were his weakness. Hypocritically, Shadow himself never tries to defeat Lyric during the game.
- Repeatedly insulted Doctor Eggman and other villains, even though they treated him with nothing but respect.
- After Eggman tricked him into believing that Sonic trash-talked him, he assaulted Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Sticks and beat them violently in order to draw Sonic out.
- Decapitated Orbot and Cubot, who posed no threat to him and never provoked him. While they survived, such cruelty was still unnecessary.
- Eventually, his egotism grew to the point where he wanted to destroy the entire universe simply out of frustration of falling for Eggman's trick. He captured Eggman and his alternate counterpart Lord Eggman and put them in a secret location, knowing that it would create a catastrophic anomaly that may destroy the world. By the end of the episode, it had triggered a number of natural disasters which posed a serious challenge to the heroes and would only get worse with time, arguably making Shadow the most successful villain in the series.
- In the end, he manages to get away without suffering a definite defeat or any punishment for his crimes.
- While it may seem that he fails the Heinous Standards due to the fact that Lyric, Eggman and Dave attempted to destroy the world before him, he actually passes it since he manages to set off a number of disasters with much less resources than Lyric, Eggman or Dave had and was closer to achieving his goal than either of them.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has some sense of honor, as he had shown respect to his enemies a number of times, including when they prevented him from destroying the universe.
- He has comedic moments such as being distracted by Eggman's childish selfie and Sonic's supposed last words used to trick Shadow.
Trivia[]
- He and King Shadow are the only two versions of Shadow to be Near Pure Evil.
- According to Sonic Boom writers Alan Denton and Greg Hahn, Sega restricted them from making Shadow comedic in the show itself, as they didn't originally let them to use him as they didn't feel that Shadow would fit in in such a comedic meta cartoon, leading Denton and Hahn to make Shadow so humorless and edgy dealing with all the crazy people that such fact would be the joke.
