How foolish you are to threaten me...
~ Shadow Queen

The Shadow Queen is the overarching antagonist of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door and its 2024 remake of the same name.

She is an ancient demon who wiped out an entire civilization and began a conquest on the entire world with several monsters. Her plans were stopped by four unknown heroes, and she was sealed away. She would later end up returning after her followers tricked people into reopening the titular Thousand-Year Door.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She nearly destroyed the world a thousand years ago, and only failed due to the four heroes stopping her. Although it was done off-screen, we see the impact as the Rogueport Underground is still in a ruined condition even to the present day.
  • Sent out her 3 dragons to ravage and destroy lands.
  • Put Bonetail in the Pit of 100 Trials out of fear she might become unable to pacify him/her.
  • She got her second-in-command minion Beldam to trick Princess Peach into obtaining the map containing the Crystal Shards so Mario and Grodus could go on a goose chase trying to open the Thousand Year-Door, only for them to unknowingly help her in her return.
  • She zaps Grodus with lightning, permanently leaving him with only a head, although he would have deserved it as he attempted to exploit her.
  • Once she gets released, the full world falls into complete darkness.
  • Though she said that she would not harm Mario and his friends if they joined her, and even gave them a second chance, it doesn't make her honorable, as she brainwashes Mario if he accepts her offer causing a game over to occur.
  • Although, Count Bleck and Dimentio did worse than her, as Count Bleck had destroyed his own universe out of revenge against his father and that they both attempted to destroy the multiverse, it's still worth noting that she doesn't have the resources to do such an act that could lead to the demise of everyone in the multiverse.
    • Even still, the villages she destroyed was heavily implying an impact in-game (even after a thousand years), whereas Dimentio and Count Bleck's deeds weren't that impacting as the deeds they committed were undone. (Count Bleck's destruction of his own was also implied to be undone considering that the Sammer's Kingdom is restored when the Pure Hearts destroy the Chaos Heart.)

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She has an affably evil side to the heroes and her minions, as she sincerely thanks Beldam for her hard work and finds Mario and his allies agreeable and offers a chance to cooperate, the only reason she engages in battle with them is out of self-defense.

Trivia[]

  • She is the only Paper Mario villain to be Near Pure Evil. However, this is only for the Japanese version, as her affable nature is not sincere in the American and European versions where she often intimidates others and arrogantly offends them.
