They can make themselves look like other people, right? So if we want to prevent them from tricking us... isn't it best to get rid of all the other people they can turn into?
~ Seongbin explaining his plan to fight the variants.
Just what did I do, anyway? You're a loser, so I treated you like one! You got what you deserve. Why is that my responsibility? Listen, Gyuhwan. You think if I didn't pick on you, nobody else would have? Think about it. You're not looking at the underlying problem here. If it weren't for me... someone much worse might've picked on you! So just maybe... you should be thankful that it was me.
~ Seongbin justifying his cruel treatment towards Gyuhwan.

Seongbin Yu is the secondary antagonist in Shotgun Boy. He was a student at Yeongchan High School and the school bully. After a group of shape-shifting monsters attack their retreat, he allies himself with his fellow bullies to kill any human, since they could by a monster as well. Later, he is hit with the monsterization infection by Zero and takes advantage of his new powers to go on a killing spree which includes all of his classmates, One and the MM. He is ultimately killed by One, however, before fully transforming into a monster.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • As a child, he murdered his comatose older brother out of jealousy from their father's attention. And this was after he sacrificed his life to save him from a truck accident.
  • In high school, he severely bullied several of his peers, mainly Gyuhwan Han and his companion Shinyeong for trying to stick up for him, for absolutely no reason other than sheer hatred for them. At one point he even broke into Gyuhwan's house while his father was stuck in the hospital to have beers with his friends. Worst of all, he gets away with all of his horrible acts because the students are too afraid to stand up to him since he's the ace student. The teachers either don't know he is a bully or don't care. Of course, he takes advantage of this.
  • When Gyuhwan finally snaps and tries to take on him, Seongbin goes into a rage, threatens to kill him and pursues him into the woods.
  • When a group of shape-shifting monsters attack his school, Seongbin's reaction was to smile when seeing the bodies of his dismembered classmates.
  • He forced his own friend, Chanhyeok, to clear out a potential death trap twice and smiled at the thought of it once.
  • Seongbin tries to kill a female student, Chayeong, on an unproven accusation she was a monster, even as she was begging for her life.
  • He brutally bashed in the head Zero (a benevolent and childlike monster) for asking why he murdered his brother, which would've easily murdered him if not for his powers. He then justifies this to his friends by coercing them that he was "definitely" a monster
  • After a run-in with 01, Seongbin becomes obsessed with killing him. He uses his monster powers to ambush and kill a squad of MM troops to steal their weapons and gear.
  • Finding a group of 8 or more survivors, Seongbin uses them as practice for his powers, killing all brutally.
  • After meeting Gyuhwan and Shinyeong again, Seongbin attempts to kill them with a stolen assault rifle, only to run away like a coward when Zero protects them.
  • Realizing that Gyuhwan is infected with the same monster-virus as he is, Seongbin preys on his insecurities to trick him into a fist fight, hoping to disembowel him to death. When Gyuhwan manages to beat him up, Seongbin makes a run for his rifle (but gets quickly disarmed).
  • When Seongbin is finally defeated, he refused to apologize for the way he treated him and attempts to goad Gyuhwan into killing him to avoid the consequences of his actions. When that fails, he pretends feeling remorse for his crimes and having a emotional breakdown. When Gyuhwan lowers his guard, Seongbin attempts to kill both him and himself with a stolen hand grenade.
  • Although there is some tragedy in his background when Seongbin was raised by an emotionally abusive father who completely neglected him in favor of Seongbin's older brother, this is extremely petty and does not make him sympathetic at all, it shows how pathetic Seongbin is in underneath.
  • While there are moral agency issues, as some of his worst crimes were committed after he was infected with Zero's virus, which was shown to be genuinely corrupting his mind this doesn't fully absolve him, as he also did a lot before being infected and was always sadistic and horrible to those around him. Furthermore, Gyuhwan was infected with the same symptoms and actually became heroic, meaning he could do same but chose to be remain evil and vile as he is.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • It is heavily implied in the story Seongbin had some genuine affection for his friend Sanggwon. At a point of the comic, Seongbin sincerely risked his own life to save Sanggwon from a monster- though in context, he was so trying to stop the monster from getting the better of him.

Trivia[]

  • So far, him, One, Three, Four and Seven are considered to be the only NPEs in the Sweet Home Universe. This is likely to change, however, and he's one of six NPEs created by Carnby Kim with Dongsoo Seon being one of the six.
