Scissors, also known as the Duel-Bladed Duelist, is a major antagonist in Paper Mario: The Origami King, the sixth installment of the Paper Mario video game series. True to its title, it is a cruel pair of sentient Scissors that enjoys cutting up and torturing Paper beings.
Its Evil Ranking[]
What Makes It Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- It took over Bowser's Castle and cut up the remaining soldiers who weren't already turned to origami by its boss.
- It cut up Bowser Jr. when he attempted to help his father.
- It captured the folded up Bowser and stuck him to the column in his own Throne Room.
- It used several of Bowser's cut-up soldiers to form the Handaconda to have it capture everyone but Mario and co. so it can cut up all of them in the most sadistic ways possible and force Bowser to witness as it does it.
- It intentionally startled Mario and Olivia with the initial pretense of surprise attacking them, stating it would be too easy in a clear patronizing tone.
- It stated it wanted to "warm up" Mario for their fight, sending in numerous cut out soldiers to battle for its amusement.
- After Mario advanced himself in the battle, Scissors decided to turn up the heat on Mario by sending in a large Buzzy Beetle covered with cut up pieces of Bowser's soldiers who are also clearly suffering from the effects.
- This particular demonstration on the matter also means that it's just fine with inflicting torture worse than death on its victims.
- Mario still had to injure the Buzzy Beetle just to play along with its cruel game.
- When it realized Mario can avoid its main means of attack in their battle, it has the nerve to call him a cheater.
- This is made even more hypocritical by immediately after requesting another turn and even cutting down the number of assisting spots on the battle board to further disadvantage Mario.
- Nothing suggests that its obedience to Olly is out of genuine loyalty to him.
- Although it did see Mario as a strong opponent in some sense and put on its sheath during their battle, it is done out of clear boastful intent and doesn't make it honorable in any way.
- Although it could be assessed to have been made to be evil, nothing implies it to lack vivid moral consciousness and its motivation of cutting up and torturing Paper beings is specific enough.
- In addition to its clear sadistic personality, it is well aware of its own presence and capability.
- Despite the high Heinous Standard, it stands out due to putting people in fates worse than deaths with little resources.
What Prevents It from Being Pure Evil?[]
- It has comedic moments that detract from its villainy (such as it standing motionless after it's defeat until Olivia knocks it over), as even its victims make some humorous remarks in addition to not being in an entirely constant state of notable suffering.
