Sargeras is one of the main antagonists of the Warcraft franchise. He is the creator of the Burning Legion and seeks out the annihilation of all life in the cosmos in a misguided effort to protect the universe from the Void Lords.

As the creator of the Burning Legion, Sargeras is directly or indirectly responsible for many of the bad events which have happened in the Warcraft universe including the corruption of the Orcs or the creation of the Undead Scourge.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He destroyed the World Soul of a Titan along with the planet it was on.
  • He created the Burning Legion with the intention of destroying the universe. He has successfully wiped out all life on countless planets over the course of many millenia. The Legion operates in multiple universes and timelines, which means Sargeras' body count is likely in the trillions if not even more.
  • He killed his former disciple Aggramar when the latter offered him a chance at redemption.
  • When the rest of the Pantheon opposed his plans and tried to stop him, Sargeras murdered them as well.
  • He wanted to find other Titan World Souls to corrupt and turn into Dark Titans who would follow him.
  • He corrupted the majority of the Eredar race by offering power to their leaders, turning them into his lieutenants. Archimonde and Kil'jaeden would go on to commit countless atrocities while following Sargeras.
  • He gave false promises to Queen Azshara of the Night Elves that if she lets him and his army enter the world of Azeroth, she and her followers would be rewarded. In truth, Sargeras was planning to slaughter them as well.
  • He sent out his army through the portal opened by Azshara with the intention of exterminating everything on their path. This leads to the War of the Ancients and to the almost complete annihilation of the Night Elves who suffer many casualties and lose many cities like their capital Zin-Azshari and Suramar which is their second biggest city at the time. The war is only stopped when Malfurion and Illidan destroy the Well of Eternity which makes Sargeras indirectly responsible for the shattering of the whole continent of Kalimdor even if he didn't intend for this happen.
  • He painfully burns Illidan's eyes to give him more power and make him loyal to the Burning Legion.
  • He tortures Xavius for a long time for his failures, then transforms him into the first Satyr. Xavius would go on to transform many other Night Elves into Satyrs which makes Sargeras indirectly responsible for their crimes as well.
  • Sargeras allowed Kil'Jaeden to hunt the Draenei (Eredar led by Velen who were uncorrupted) across the stars which leads to the corruption of the Orcs who in turn are used to commit genocide against most of the Draenei race.
  • He punished his demons for failing to conquer Azeroth by absorbing their souls and using them to create the Jeweled Scepter of Sargeras. He could use this weapon to open a rift to the Twisting Nether at the risk of tearing apart reality itself, but Sargeras didn't care about that.
  • When his Avatar which he had sent as part of a plan to invade Azeroth is destroyed by Aegwynn, Sargeras goes into her womb and corrupts her baby Medivh by staying inside him throughout his entire life and tormenting him into doing his bidding. He uses Medivh to build a portal to Draenor, later known as Outland, to summon the Orcs into the world of Azeroth, so they can conquer it before Sargeras and his demonic Burning Legion themselves arrive. This makes Sargeras responsible for the First and Second World Wars which are fought between the Allience and the Horde and for the many deaths and the mass destruction across the Human, Dwarf and Elven kingdoms which were a direct result of Sargeras letting the Orcs into Azeroth.
  • While possessing Medivh, he forced or tried to force him to kill people that were close to him. This includes Medivh's own mother, who survives the encounter, Medivh's trusted servant Moroes and he attempts to use Medivh to kill Garona, Kadgar and Lothar who had come to stop him. He also uses Medivh's power to brutally burn the Blue Dragon Arcanagos from the inside out.
  • He horribly tortures Varimathras because the latter failed to summon him to Azeroth. This leaves Varimathras seriously traumatized.
  • He launches a third invasion of the Burning Legion against Azeroth which results in mass casualties and destruction before he is stopped.
  • He has sought out and imprisoned the souls of the Titan Pantheon because he wants to corrupt them into Dark Titans.
  • He tortures the world-soul of Argus for 25,000 years, transforming it into a Dark Titan to ensure that his demons are revived in the Twisting Nether after death which is an extremely painful process for the world-soul. This means the players are forced to mercy kill Argus' World Soul.
  • He tries to destroy all of Azeroth moments before he is imprisoned by the Pantheon out of pure spite by plunging his sword into the surface which nearly destroys the whole planet.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is a Well-Intentioned Extremist who wants to stop the Void Lords' plan to destroy reality. Sargeras believes that the universe needs to be completely destroyed to remove any presense of the Void, and that a new universe could be reborn in place of the old one. This goal is never subverted or presented as insincere and even though Sargeras himself weaponizes the Void, he is only doing it to achieve his ultimate goal of stopping the Void Lords. However, he goes way too far with his actions, making it a minor prevention.
  • He has a pet felhound named Goremaw that he cares about. Sargeras is so enraged when the child of a world conquered by the Burning Legion kills Goremaw that he has the entire planet and its people destroyed.
