Roy Gribbleston is the main antagonist of the horror web series Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared.
Due to his extreme loathing of his son, Yellow Guy, he traps him and his friends into a torturous world and used a machine to create entities that "teach" the puppets about everyday topics, only to mutilate and brutalize them at the end of their lessons.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He is shown to be an irresponsible father to his son, openly watching porn in front of him.
- Due to his burning hatred of his son, he traps him and his friends, Red Guy and Duck Guy, in his personal hell of a simulation.
- To carry out his tortures, he used a machine to create teachers to put the puppets in harm's way. These teachers are:
- Sketchbook, who killed a person off-screen before bringing their heart back for Red Guy to use in an arts and crafts project, manipulated the gang into making cake filled with raw meat (implied to be freshly slaughtered), and twisted Duck so he only felt inspired to think about death while expressing his creativity.
- Tony the Talking Clock, who physically tortured (or possibly psychologically) the three by rapidly aging them so they rotted.
- Shrignold the Butterfly, who tried to brainwash Yellow Guy into the Cult of Malcolm and is implied to have attempted to rape him.
- Colin the Computer, who trapped Yellow Guy and Duck Guy in the digital world, forcing them to follow his digital dancing presumably on loop until he got unplugged.
- The Healthy Band and possibly the Cans, who mutilated Duck Guy to death and fed him to Yellow Guy.
- It’s likely that Roy himself was responsible for getting the giant can to eat Duck’s organs, as he can be seen stalking everyone on set when Duck knocks down the camera.
- And The Lamp, who attempted to drown Yellow Guy in oil.
- Numerous other teachers that quickly drove Yellow Guy insane as Red Guy fiddled with his machine.
- His main motivation for this seemed to be simply out of hatred for his son Yellow Guy. This is shown further as revealed in the interviews said Yellow Guy is allergic to things such as chicken, eggs, and trees, in which the third episode in particular is littered around with them (although it's never explained why he hates his son).
- When Red tries to stop the machine, Roy comes up behind to presumably stop Red Guy, fix the machine or try and coax him into stopping and coming back (however it's never fully explained what he was doing in DHMIS 6).
- While it is unknown what happens to Roy after the machine is unplugs and the world “resets” he is seen in the shadows of the final credit scenes, hinting he got away with his deeds in the end. This would later be proven correct in the TV show, where it is shown that he is alive, well, and continues to harbor a strong disliking to his son and his friends.
- It's also implied that because of some of the teachers befriending the puppets in the TV series (most notably Colin, Tony and The Lamp), it's possible he was mind controlling them to torment his son and his friends (although it's unknown if the other teachers like Shrignold and The Healthy Band were controlled by the machine).
- While unexpectedly visiting Toddney and Lily's family in the TV show, he massacred the entire family in order to eat all of the chicken for himself.
- It should be noted that while he assumedly came to save his son Yellow Guy, Roy angrily shoved him aside, proving that he still never cared about him and only killed Toddney and Lily's family just to eat the entire family meal bucket of Grolton's Chicken.
- It should also be known that while they were villainous, both Lily and Toddney (and their brother) were still children, making his crime more heinous.
- It’s heavily implied that he continued to stalk Yellow Guy and his friends throughout the TV show, as evidenced by him hitchhiking in Mr. Transport before getting thrown out of the car by Red Guy.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While it is a relatively minor prevention, it should be noted that he lacks characterisation due to his very few appearances and only having one line of dialogue
Trivia[]
- He and Steak, Spinach Can & Refrigerator are currently the only Near Pure Evils from the DHMIS series.
- He's also the only Near Pure Evil from DHMIS to not be a teacher.
- It’s been theorized Roy is actually Yellow Guy from the Future, his actions in the sixth video were an attempt to get Red Guy to save his past self from suffering his fate. If this were to be the case,it would make him sympathetic.
