~ Jaime Lannister's thoughts about Rossart |
Lord Rossart is a minor posthumous in the epic fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire and its 2011-2019 television series adaptation Game of Thrones.
He was the Grand Master of the Alchemists' Guild and a pyromancer during the reign of Mad King Aerys II Targaryen. As King Aerys' right-hand man, he actively supported and aided the Mad King in his atrocities and cruel actions, and led the executions at the royal court. Near the end of King Aerys' reign, Rossart served as Hand of the King. History will remember him as the man who burned Lord Rickard Stark alive or just another mad fancy of the Mad King.
In the TV series, he is played by an unidentified actor.
His Evil Ranking?[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- He burned Lord Rickard Stark alive inside his armor. Rickard's son Brandon Stark was tied up and forced to watch his father's agonizing death, with a noose around his neck and a sword just beyond his grasp. In his desperation to save his father, Brandon strangled himself while trying to reach the sword.
- When the Hand of the King, Lord Qarlton Chelsted, refused to participate in Aerys' plan to destroy the city of King's Landing, Aerys ordered him to be burned alive. Rossart and his pyromancers carried out the Mad King's order. After the execution of Lord Qarlton, Rossart became the new Hand of the King and began placing stashes of wildfire all over King's Landing.
- Participation in King Aerys's plan to destroy King's Landing, a city inhabited by half a million innocent people, shows a disregard for human life and a willingness to cause widespread death and destruction. However, before he could carry out this order, he was stopped and killed by Ser Jaime Lannister.
- Active participation in the reign of the Mad King, Aerys II Targaryen, who was known for his cruel and insane rule. This suggests a willingness to align himself with a ruler known for his atrocities and to contribute to the perpetuation of a brutal regime. Rossart burned dozens of people alive on behalf of King Aerys II Targaryen.
- It can also be said that Rossart further provoked King Aerys' paranoia and tyranny. He exploited the Mad King's obsessions and paranoia to gain royal favor and government positions.
- Even after his death, some of this wildfire was used by the Lannisters to kill many soldiers during the Battle of Blackwater, specifically targeting Stannis's fleet. In the series adaptation, this caused even more damage as it was placed beneath the Sept of Baelor, leading to the death of many people after the barrels of wildfire were positioned under them.
- No hesitation or remorse in carrying out evil deeds, as demonstrated by his involvement in the execution of Lord Rickard Stark and his willingness to serve Aerys.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Fails the heinous standard to King Aerys II Targaryen because he mostly follows Aerys' orders.
