Taking life is my job, and I do it well.
~ Roberto's famous quote.

Adolf Reinhard, also known as Roberto, is the secondary antagonist of the manga and anime series Monster by Naoki Urasawa.

He is Johan Liebert's right-hand man, personal bodyguard, and most loyal of all his hitmen.

He is voiced by Nobuyuki Katsube in the Japanese version, and by JB Blanc in the English dubbed version, who also voiced Jiga from Naruto.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Is Johan's far more sadistic right-hand, having have awareness of Johan's original doomsday agenda to crash human society and be the last human alive, even moreso than the rest of Johan's allies and actively pushes for it to "see the Scenery of the End", making him stand out from all of Johan's other henchmen and allies.
  • Murdered Detective Messener. Although Messener was an awful person who helped kill Nina's parents, Roberto only killed him to keep him silent and maintain Johan's secrets.
  • Murders the private detective Michael Müller hired to keep tabs on Dr. Kenzo Tenma, Nina Fortner and Detective Messener simply to silence him.
  • Threatens the life of Muller's wife and stepson to hand over the documents from the detective to him.
  • Despite his loyalty towards Johan, Roberto is such a trigger-happy lunatic that he will go behind Johan's back at times and try killing Nina and Tenma despite Johan's intentions to keep them alive and corrupt them, solely to satisfy his bloodlust. This leads to Muller's death, who gave up his life trying to save Nina's life.
  • Attempts to kill Dr. Reichwein when he got too close to figuring out the truth about his patient, Detective Richard Braun's death.
  • Attempts to assassinate Hans Georg Schuwald to give Johan control over Germany's economy and begin their plan to crash human society. It only was only thwarted by Johan making the last minute change to his goals and having the library set on fire, to which Roberto expresses nothing but sick amusement seeing the dozens of innocent occupants trying to flee for their lives.
  • Attempts to have Tenma's ex-fiancée, Eva Heinemann, killed against his wishes, due to her having seen Johan's face.
  • Assassinates Konrad and sets up tensions all across Ruhenheim to carry out Johan's plan to turn the population of the town against each other and have them slaughter each other and destroy the entire town in the process. A huge portion of the town ends up wiped out as a result of these machinations, even children.
  • Attempts to sadistically strangle Lunge to death while taunting him on how his grandchild will never know who his actual grandfather is.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Has a genuine tragedy, he was the son of a pair of Czechoslovakian immigrants who got shot trying to cross the Berlin Wall, was sent to Kinderheim 511 that destroyed his sense of identity and made him forget who he was, and that upon meeting Johan, pledged undying loyalty towards him for giving him glimpses of his identity and a purpose in his life. This extends to having a sympathetic death, when he sheds a tear realizing all he had done in his life serving Johan had all been for nothing.
  • Is undyingly loyal to Johan despite going against his back at times, that he begrudgingly abandons any desire to have Nina and Tenma killed to follow Johan's wishes at the end.
