Professor Richard Brinkerhoff, also known as Coach Brink, is a major antagonist of Gen V, a spinoff of the Amazon TV adaptation of The Boys comic. He is a crime-fighting professor at Godolkin University who trained superheroes, while secretly running an experimental facility for Supers alongside Indira Shetty.

He is portrayed by Clancy Brown who also portrayed Byron Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption and Kurt Caldwell in Dexter: New Blood and voiced Uka Uka in the Crash Bandicoot video games, President Luthor in Justice League, Mr. Freeze in The Batman, Long Feng in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Yakone in The Legend of Korra and Gunmar in Tales of Arcadia.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Though he presents himself as an affable mentor to the school as a whole, this is a façade to hide his true evil self and keep up his self-image.
  • Along with Indira Shetty, he secretly ran an experimental facility that had young Supes kidnapped, imprisoned and put through horrific experiments. This has visible effects as he would torture Luke Riordan's brother, Sam, leaving him an emotional wreck by having him go to The Woods.
  • He would repeatedly have Cate Dunlap make Luke forget about his brother by erasing his memory after transfusing him with Sam's blood, which traumatized both brothers as Sam would feel forgotten by Luke and Luke would struggle with depressive thoughts when he slowly remembers seeing his brother.
  • He planned to expel Marie and use her as a scapegoat for her friends actions, despite knowing she would be sent to a horrible home.
  • While he is nice to Luke and genuinely wants him to succeed as a hero, this is more out of a desire to continue his legacy of producing marketable Supes as opposed to actual care. Luke is just as much a victim to his experimentation as everyone else.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He fails the Heinous Standards to Indira Shetty who shares the same crimes as him but also experimented with the Godolkin Virus and planned genocide against all Supes after his death.
  • Although he only made Jordan his protégé so they’d keep quiet about seeing Luke during one of his breakdowns, it’s clear Brink has some form of admiration for them even outside of this. He was the one who encouraged Jordan to embrace their gender fluidity when they were initially scared of changing and continued to help them get into the spotlight despite them not being a particulary marketable hero.
