| ā | Know that I have been alive more years than you can imagine, that I have seen and done things that would shake the core of everything you believe. That I'm thought to be a demon, a saint, a ghost... | ā |
| ~ Ra's al Ghul revealing himself to Bruce Wayne. |
| ā | Then allow me to tell you what will happen if you don't kill me. I will disappear and let you live your life. You will follow the path of light. Grow into a fine man. Become a husband. A father. There may be a day when you forget I ever existed. But then I will return. And I will kill everyone you love. Just as you watched your parents die, just as you watched me slice your friend's throat, I will slaughter your wife and children before your very eyes, and there will be nothing you can do about it. | ā |

Ra's al Ghul is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Professor Hugo Strange) of the 2014 FOX television series Gotham.
He is the founder and leader of the League of Shadows who initially intended on destroying Gotham City, purging it of its entire criminal element and grooming Bruce Wayne into his heir. After meeting Bruce, he then intends on shaping Bruce Wayne into a "dark knight" that could protect the city even after his death. He is also the father of Nyssa al Ghul and the one who orchestrated most of the events of the entire series.
He was portrayed by Alexander Siddig.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- According to his daughter, Nyssa al Ghul, he gained a reputation for destroying empires.
- He influenced the Court of Owls as their benefactor, being largely responsible for their crimes, such as financing Hugo Strange's experiments.
- Used the Court of Owl to unleash the Tetch virus engineered by Jervis Tetch upon Gotham to drive most of the civilians insane as his plan to destroy Gotham.
- He manipulated Bruce Wayne into fatally wounding Alfred Pennyworth when he first met him.
- He killed many people including a boy named, Alex Winthrop, in order to try and retrieve the Embalming Knife of King Balahsi.
- He threatened to murder Bruce's family in his future when Bruce was at his happiest moment. Bruce did not want to kill Ra's al Ghul, but because of the threat, Bruce killed him ā making Bruce into a murderer and thus driving Bruce into depression.
- When he is revived in his incomplete form without the demon's head, he killed a minion nearby for annoying him.
- He went after Barbara Kean for the demon's head.
- At one point, he killed her in a spar for the demon's head and killed Tabitha Galavan, the woman she cared about. While these actions are reversed by Barbara, it goes to show that Ra's had no problem killing her or the woman she loved. While he did nurture her in the beginning before his death, after his revival he did not hesitate to kill her.
- Ra's allied himself with Jeremiah Valeska and set in plan to try and abduct Bruce Wayne by giving him instructions to go after Bruce.
- He planted a bomb near the mayor's office killing him and multiple incocent people.
- He instructed his men to place Jeremiah's bombs near all the entrances of all the bridges that connect Gotham to mainland.
- Later that night, after abducting Bruce and telling him of his plan, the bombs went off killing many people and causing a lot of property damage.
- Due to Ra's al Ghul and Jeremiah Valeska destroying the bridges in Gotham, it caused "cataclysm" or "No Man's Land" where the city was deprived of adequate access to resources and where the city was no longer governed properly allowing criminals to run rampant and endanger innocent people.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Although he did psychologically abuse Bruce, Ra's al Ghul was truly invested in making Bruce a competent hero for Gotham City, showing that his actions were somewhat well-intentioned.
- He could genuinely be affable at times, especially to Bruce and Barbara.
- He expressed that he experienced a lot of anguish from living a long life and wanted for Bruce to kill him in order to put an end to the misery he felt, making him somewhat sympathetic.
Trivia[]
- This is one of 4 versions of Ra's al Ghul to be Near Pure Evil, alongside his Arkhamverse, Beware The Batman, and Dark Tomorrow counterparts.
