ā€œ I will give this wretched world the queen It deserves. ā€ž
~ Queen Ravenna states her goals.

Queen Ravenna, also known as the Evil Queen, is the main antagonist of the 2012 fantasy action-adventure film Snow White and the Huntsman and its 2016 sequel The Huntsman: Winter's War.

She is the selfish, tyrannical and manipulative ruler of Tabor, who learns that her stepdaughter, Snow White, is destined to surpass her as the "Fairest One of All". However, upon learning that the only way to remain in power is by consuming Snow White's heart, Ravenna recruits a Huntsman to capture and kill the young princess in exchange for his freedom, and presumably, using her own magic to resurrect his lost wife from the dead which is but a lie. She had a younger brother, Finn, and a younger sister, the mysterious ice queen, Freya.

She was portrayed by Charlize Theron, who also portrayed Stormfront in Dawn of the Seven as well as in the third season of The Boys.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

Huntsman Winter’s War prologue[]

  • She drains the youth of perhaps hundreds of women so she can remain young while they live on as old hags.
  • She murders a king and usurps the throne.
  • She tried to sabotage her sister Freya’s relationship with the Duke of Blackwood Andrew by saying he is in a relationship with someone else.
  • She brainwashed Freya’s fiancĆ© into murdering their daughter when she learned from her Magic Mirror that she would grow more beautiful than Ravenna. This subsequently led to Freya killing Andrew in a grief-fueled rage with her new powers that can create ice and running away to rule her own kingdom known as ā€œIce Queenā€. This ultimately makes Ravenna responsable for all Freya's villainous acts as the Ice Queen and suffering her brought to the North people.

Snow White and the Huntsman[]

  • She secretly commands an army of glass soldiers and acts as their captive.
  • She poisons King Magnus of Tabor on their wedding night and kills him with a blade, then usurps the throne while planning an attack on the castle.
  • She locks away her stepdaughter, Princess Snow White of Tabor, for many years while she lives as a ruthless tyrant over the kingdom of Tabor while draining women of youth.
  • Upon learning from her Magic Mirror that Snow White is destined to destroy her when she comes of age unless she consumes the young girl's heart, which will make her immortal, she orders Finn to bring Snow White to her so she can kill her. However, Snow White manages to escape to the Dark Forest where Ravenna's powers are limited.
  • She makes a bargain with Eric the Huntsman, a widower, and drunkard, to capture Snow White, and lies by promising to bring his wife back to life in exchange.
  • She sends Finn and her army to capture Snow White when Eric didn’t do so. This leads to the duo meeting up with Snow White’s childhood friend William.
  • She shape-shifts into William and tempts Snow White into eating a poisoned apple, which she does, and is about to rip her heart out, but is forced to flee before she could finish the job when the Huntsman and William discover her. But Snow White comes back from the dead after being kissed by Eric.
  • She creates an army of glass monsters to attack Snow White and her army when they attack her.
  • She taunts Snow White about King Magnus by calling him weak before dueling with her stepdaughter.
  • She attempts to kill Snow White one last time before being stabbed by Snow White to death.

Winter’s War[]

  • Upon being resurrected 7 years later by her sister Freya from the Magic Mirror from which she was kept, her first thought was taking back Tabor and killing Snow White with the help of Freya and her huntsmen.
  • She shows satisfaction in how her sister Freya became a ruthless tyrant like her, and when she starts to redeem herself, Ravenna disapproves and attacks her.
  • She try to reunite Freya's army to send them to Tabor so that she would take the kingdom from Snow White and kill her.
  • She tried to kill Eric after stopping an arrow that was meant for Freya, but was stopped by Eric’s wife Sara. The couple gets captured eventually and sentenced to death.
  • When the Huntsmen rebel and side with Eric and Sara, Ravenna attacks them before Freya makes an ice wall to protect them.
  • During an argument with Freya, the truth about Andrew and Freya’s daughter is revealed, which makes Freya heartbroken and angry and the two fight. In the middle of it, Ravenna belittles and taunts Freya.
  • When Freya hugs Ravenna, she creates a tentacle that impales Freya and mortally wounds her.
  • She fights Eric one last time while in the middle of it Freya freezes the mirror and Eric throws an axe at the mirror - not before Ravenna stabs Eric one last time - which shatters it, allowing Ravenna to die for good as it sustained her soul.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She cares for several members of her family (except her sister Freya), in particular she cares for her mother, as her death is what made her go on her dark path and despite abusing him at times, she cares about her brother Finn, if a bit incestuously, and was seen lamenting his death.
  • She has a tragic backstory that's played for sympathy; the village that she lived in was attacked, and her mother gave her a spell to give her youth and beauty at the price of others, but she was separated from her and her brother by a king, not before her mother says "avenge us".
    • While it doesn't really justify her actions, it does give her sympathy and making her hatred towards kings understandable, not to mention that she says that she was married to plenty of kings who used her and threw her out once she was no longer needed.
