Near Pure Evil Wiki

Providence is a major antagonist in the Terraria Calamity Mod. She is the Goddess of Ash, having ascended after killing the Auric Dragon of Fire along with three fellow warriors, who became the Profaned Guardians. She believes life itself is the source of impurity, intending to wipe out all life on the planet.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She, along with her three fellow warriors, killed and consumed the soul of the Auric Dragon of fire, permanently killing them and thus playing a role in the genocide of the Auric Dragons.
  • Upon ascending, she developed a worldview that the world was impure and needed to be burned away, beginning her plot to attempt to destroy the entire world.
  • During Yharim's crusades against the gods, she repeatedly performed hit-and-run attacks against Yharim's army, killing numerous people and escaping.
  • She seeks to eradicate the Earth of all life due to its impurities, giving her one of the biggest attempted body counts in the game.
  • While she felt disgusted at the forces of good and evil, her attempting mass cataclysm makes her a hypocrite as she is just as vile as those she considers impure.
  • She is worshipped by fanatical cults, meaning she is indirectly responsible for any messed up things the cults did.
  • She attempts to kill the Terrarian when they get ahold of one of her many artifacts, and like most bosses, does not care how many bystanders she kills in the process as fighting her in a town of NPCs almost always leads to catastrophic results.
  • While she's not as directly destructive to the world as Yharim, Draedon, and Calamitas, she stands out due to having less resources than them and attempting outright omnicide.
  • After Moon Lord's defeat, it is presumed she sent the new Profaned type enemies into the Hallow and the Underworld.
  • Even Yharim, an extremely heinous tyrant who committed multiple genocides, is disgusted by Providence's plan and cults worshipping her.
  • Although she has no speaking dialogue, she DOES have a stated personality. Combined with the fact she's intelligent and strategic means she's not a generic doomsday villain.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • She cares for her minions, the Profaned Guardians, who she sacrificed some of her power for to allow them to ascend in a weaker state alongside her. Furthermore, the lore document clarifies that she genuinely sees them as allies, breaking her own worldview in the process.
  • If the player goes all out purity and defeats her using only the Profaned Soul Artifact, she will recognize their devotion to purity and award them the Profaned Soul Crystal which when equipped allows the player to use Providence's attacks.
