Professor Rupert Marmalade IV is the main antagonist of DreamWorks' The Bad Guys franchise, based on Aaron Blabey's books of the same name.
He is a guinea pig, known for being a philanthropist and might seem like a good person, but is really a cruel self-centered fraud who doesn't hesitate to kill anyone who tries to stop his plans. He is the archenemy of both The Bad Guys (particularly towards Mr. Wolf) and Diane Foxington.
He was voiced by Richard Ayoade. While disguised as the Old Lady, he is voiced by Barbara Goodson.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- While he does have some comedic moments, most notably getting angry for someone calling the meteorite a butt-rock, he is still taken seriously.
- While some could argue that he has standards given how he was seemingly worried when Mr. Shark tried to eat Mr. Snake over a push pop, he did nothing to stop this, and it was likely this was a façade to hide his true nature as opposed to having standards given the fact that he tried to kill the Bad Guys later on.
- While he actually comes from another planet, it is unconfirmed if he cares about his homeworld or not.
- Despite getting along well with his assistant Cuddles, this is just a professional boss and assistant relationship rather than true care for him, not to mention never acknowledging him by the time of the sequel.
The Bad Guys[]
- He did a bunch of good deeds to hide his true intentions and cement himself as the "goodest guy in the city".
- While disguised as an elderly woman, he managed to trick Mr. Wolf into implanting the thought of being a "good boy" in his head.
- He ordered the Bad Guys to do a "heist for good", which involves freeing guinea pigs from a research lab, which he would use for mind-controlling in order to steal all the charity money.
- He stole the meteorite on display when the lights in the charity party went out and got the Bad Guys blamed for the heist to save his own skin and ruin their reputation as good guys.
- He betrays Mr. Wolf and the Bad Guys by reveling his true nature, which provides he was never a good person and was a criminal. Marmalade provoked and taunted Mr. Wolf in a fit of rage to attack him to gain sympathy points, and to make the Bad Guys look worse.
- He talked to Tiffany Fluffit in a rather condescending tone to gain even more sympathy points instead of fear, making Diane Foxington realize Marmalade set Mr. Wolf and his gang up.
- After harnessing the power of the meteorite, he mind-controlled all the guinea pigs in the city to make them steal all the charity money.
- He caught Mr. Wolf and Diane Foxington by luring Mr. Wolf into brainlessly getting him and Diane caught, before telling his henchman Cuddles to kill them both.
- He chased the Bad Guys in his helicopter and tried to kill them.
- He tossed Mr. Snake out the helicopter as he grabs onto the handrail with his teeth, using him as an advantage to make Wolf give the meteorite back.
- He kicked Mr. Snake to fall to his death, only for him to later be saved by The Bad Guys.
- He lied about retrieving the meteorite back from The Bad Guys, thinking he got away with his crimes, only to find out the meteorite was actually the lamp and that he was set up by a secretly redeemed Mr. Snake.
The Bad Guys 2[]
- He assisted Kitty Kat in her goals of using the MacGuffanite to magnetize every golden thing in the world.
- He also revealed to Kitty The Crimson Paw's true identity, so he's also the reason why she's able to reveal it to the world and ruin Diane's reputation (although to be fair this is somewhat justified since he was falsely accused of Diane's crimes).
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Both him brainwashing the guinea pigs and having Kitty Kat magnetize gold from the Earth rely on Fridge Horror, as it's unknown if the guinea pigs are in pain and while some damage is shown to have been caused to the Earth due to the magnetization, it's never made clear if it actually endangered anyone.
Trivia[]
- While he may be Near Pure Evil now, this could be changed once the third movie comes out.
