Someone is lying to me.
~ Pope trying to find the traitor in his midst.

Pope is a major antagonist in the 11th and final season of AMC's The Walking Dead. He is the leader of the Reapers who gets the population of Meridian killed and who hunts down the survivors.

He was portrayed by Ritchie Coster.

His Evil Ranking[]

What makes him close to Pure Evil[]

  • His honor and affability are all merely a hoax as he always expects The Reapers to follow his orders and has no problem with killing the members for petty inconveniences or when they disobey him, he also regularly endangers their lives.
  • When his dog tick bit him, he strangled the animal to death
  • As the leader of “The Reapers” he is directly and indirectly responsible for Reapers attacking small groups and settlements, later, he would go on to order the massacre of Meridian, which would get the survivors killed by the zombies and reapers.
  • It is possible that he killed the inhabitants of the subway tunnel in the beginning at the outbreak as there were no gunshot wounds and The Reapers or the only hostile group shown in that area.
  • When a reaper disobeyed Pope’s orders, he ordered him to be hung on a tree and then burned alive, afterward marking the words “Judas” on a sign.
  • When Maggie and the Meridian survivors tried to take back the community from the reapers and get food for Alexandria, they stumbled upon 34 strung-up bodies, almost definitely from the reapers as they seem to be the only hostile group near the forest.
  • When The Reapers ambushed the group, they killed Cole by slitting his throat, threw multiple throwing knives at Duncan, shot Roy in the head, and tried to kill the others.
  • After the group escapes, Michael and Bossie hunt down the remaining members, such as Maggie, Negan, and Alden, with Alden bleeding to death from his wounds.
  • Kidnapped Daryl and Frost, forcing Daryl to torture Frost, or else he would kill him, and later tortured Daryl for information on the Meridian Survivors.
  • To test his loyalty, he endangers Leah and Daryl by setting the cabin on fire.
  • To "avenge" Turner's death, he threw one of his men, Bossie, into a campfire while pushing him further into the fire with his leg.
  • Tortured Frost to death and hung him on a post as a symbol to not mess with his group.
  • When Leah finds a survivor with a wife and a child, Pope orders her to kill the family for no reason except sadism, thankfully, she still has morals and fakes their deaths instead.
  • He showed no care when Paul Wells ends up being killed after being sent to find Maggie controlling a zombie horde as he simply says that he knew it would likely happen, showing his revenge for Turner's death isn't out of any honor but merely an excuse to kill someone who challenged his leadership.
  • To finally kill the last of the Meridian survivors, he orders Ancheta to fire the Hwacha at Meridian; despite knowing it will kill his men.
  • For his death and betrayal, Leah Shaw disbanded the group and became more ruthless than before by killing a Commonwealth convoy and trying to stab Maggie to death.
  • His tragedy of being in the war and watching his allies being killed no longer holds up as despite them being the only thing that makes life meaningful, he murdered several of them out of sadism, and it slowly revealed that everything he does is for himself.

What prevents him from being Pure Evil[]

  • He fails the heinous standard to Owen who with slightly less resources did actions just as bad as him and also attempted to murder everyone in Alexandria and lured Zombies to the town, getting several more characters killed and Carl losing his eye.
    • The massacre at the subway tunnels, which was definitely a mass murder, not one from zombies, would allow him to stand out, but it's not known if his group did the act.
