Pigma Dengar (ピグマ・デンガー) is a major antagonist of the Star Fox franchise, being a secondary antagonist in Star Fox 64, Assault, and Command. He is a former member of Star Fox and later Star Wolf, he would then become a freelance criminal. He betrayed the original Star Fox team by luring them into Andross’ trap and was indirectly responsible for James McCloud’s death.
He was voiced by David Frederick White in Star Fox 64 and the remakes, while in Assault, he was voiced by Lev Liberman.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
In General[]
- While he isn't as galaxy destructive as other Star Fox villains such as Andross and Aparoid Queen, Pigma has far less resources than them, plus his personal villainy towards Star Fox team (especially Fox McCloud and Peppy Hare) made him stand out.
- While he does have a couple comedic moments, they do not detract from his villainy. Furthermore, most of these moments merely highlight his sadism and cruelty.
Star Fox 64/Star Fox Zero[]
- He betrayed the original Star Fox team by luring them into a trap, which led to James McCloud’s demise.
- Joined the Star Wolf team and they were hired by Andross in multiple attempts to bring the new Star Fox team down.
- He generally prefers to go after Peppy, his former teammate, and would sadistically taunt him.
- He would also taunt Fox about his father’s death just to spite him.
Star Fox: Assault[]
- After being kicked out by Wolf O’Donnell for being greedy and mistrustful, he would become a freelance criminal. It’s implied that the scars on his head came from Wolf.
- Sent out a distress signal in Katina in order to lure Star Fox.
- After Fox destroyed the Aparoid Walker, he revealed himself and stole the Core Memory from the Aparoid so he could become rich.
- Lead the Aparoids and helped them spread across the Lylat system.
- Deactivated the climate control center in Fichina, making it a snowy wasteland.
- Infected a power generator into an Aparoid. The Aparoid would have destroyed the climate control center if Star Fox didn’t stop it.
- While he was infected by the Aparoids and eventually becoming a mindless mutant, this does not make him a scapegoat as he's willing to aid the Aparoids despite refusing to submit to them.
- Although Fox and the rest of the Star Fox team are disturbed by his fate of being assimilated by the Aparoid’s, this doesn’t make him sympathetic since he did bring this on himself by taking the Core Memory so that he could sell it to get money.
Star Fox: Command[]
- As Neo Pigma, he has Star Wolf bring Star Fox to him.
- Sent some Anglar forces to kill the Star Fox team, after they failed, he would try to kill them himself.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- In Star Fox: Command, he reveals that he does have a soft spot for Star Wolf, notably Wolf, even after he had been brutally kicked off the team. He even calls Wolf his ‘old friend’, showing that has some fondness for his time with them.
Trivia[]
- He is one of two Star Fox villains to be Near Pure Evil, along with Anglar Emperor.
- He is also the only Star Wolf, and by extension the only Star Fox member in the timeline to be Near Pure Evil.
- One factor that Pigma has that could possibly change him to be approved as Pure Evil as Star Fox Command’s nine endings are stated to be non-canon and unclear canon with the game as a whole being dubious canon to the timeline.
- However, if a sequel to Star Fox Command were made that disconfirms the timeline of his statement to genuinely care for the Star Wolf team, or if Star Fox Command were retconned from the timeline entirely, he would automatically qualify.
- Pigma (alongside Wolf and Leon) was originally gonna be in Star Fox 2, but it's also worth noting his Super-FX counterpart from this game is not be considered Near Pure Evil due to the fact that he wasn't even a member of the Star Fox team in the first place unlike his 64-Command counterpart. It’s actually unknown if he knew James (whose Super-FX counterpart isn’t named) and/or Peppy (who isn't as close to Fox's father as his other incarations from the games are) in the first place.
