His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- While he was originally a war hero and philanthropist who became a cardinal, he sheds these redeeming qualities he used to have by the time of his appearance and has turned into a sadistic monster.
- He is the most powerful man in the state and brought down governors and mayors to achieve power. He puts his monstrous brother, Ethan Roark into power as senator, which makes Cardinal Roark responsible for Ethan being able to commit all of his horrible acts. This also allows for Ethan's son, Ethan Roark Junior to get away with raping and murdering children for so many years, due to his father being in position of power. Ultimately, Cardinal Roark is the primary reason Sin City is such a horrible place, due to being the one to make his brother senator.
- His service of God is not out genuine loyalty and love for God, and was more so done because he wanted the insurance of believing God was on his side and the power, as it got him into a position of authority. Roark is both delusional and hypocritical, committing horrific actions that go against the morals of his own religion.
- He met depraved cannibal, Kevin, who was wracked with guilt over what he had done, however, Roark ended up believing that Kevin was the holy being that he thought he was and likely only corrupted Kevin further and made him more evil. Roark eliminated his guilt and is heavily implied to have encouraged him to continue, joining Kevin himself.
- He joins Kevin in murdering cannibalizing numerous prostitutes, which he takes sadistic enjoyment in.
- He created the Roark Family Farm as Kevin's lair for him to commit his horrible crimes.
- He has Kevin kill the prostitute Goldie while she is staying with Marv. Then, he frames Marv for Goldie's death and sends the Police after him.
- He is shown to be a misogynist and remarks how all of the women he and Kevin killed and cannibalized were whores who would not be missed.
- When confronted by Marv, he taunted him and showed no remorse for is actions. He brags about his crimes to Marv and badmouths Goldie, the prostitute Marv fell in love with, who Kevin murdered.
- His gruesome death is not played for sympathy and is well-deserved for what a monster he was.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Evil?[]
- He has people he cares about:
- He genuinely cared about Kevin and was very much saddened and angry over his death. He reminisces about Kevin and how he was the only one Kevin would talk to, talking about him having the voice of an angel, thinking of him positively, and wishing to reunite with him in the afterlife.
- He seems to care for his brother, Ethan Roark, as he was the one who put him in a position of power.
