Did you really think you could get away with betraying the entire Thanagarian empire?
~ Paran Dul to Hawkgirl.

Paran Dul is a minor antagonist in the DC Animated Universe, serving as a supporting antagonist of the Justice League series finale "Starcrossed" and the main antagonist of the Justice League Unlimited episode "Hunter's Moon".

She is a Thanagarian lieutenant serving under Commander Hro Talak's orders. In a desperate attempt to save Thanagar from the threat of the Gordanians, Talak and his men trick the Earth into letting them build a hyperspace bypass generator on their planet that may destroy it, which Dul is assigned to oversee during its construction

She was voiced by the late Elizabeth Peña.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

Justice League[]

  • Assists Hro Talak and their fellow Thanagarians in their invasion to Earth so they can have their chance to win the Thanagarian-Gordanian War.
  • Oversees the construction of the hyperspace bypass generator necessary (while passing it off as a force shield) to open a wormhole gateway to destroy the Gordanians, fully knowing that it's gonna destroy the planet.
    • Particularly, despite her just being in charge of the project, Paran Dul later takes full credit for the bypass generator, arguably giving her more responsibility for its development and use.
  • Attempts to kill Superman, the Flash, Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern with a bazooka that destroys the Javelin, only failing to kill Lantern and Flash due to being stopped by Hawkgirl.
  • Zaps Martian Manhunter into unconsciousness with her electric baton, mocking him for a previous conversation they had and trying to hit him once more likely with a lethal intent before the Flash stops her.
  • Enslaves humans with no technical abilities to work like animals by carrying and lifting the construction materials for the generator, getting the permission to do so by Talak despite appalling Hawkgirl in the process.
  • Assures her commander that if the Justice League surprise-attack her and her forces, it will be a "suicide" for them, meaning that she would have them killed.
  • Evacuates the Thanagarian troops from the hyperspace bypass generator once it's ready and gives the order to activate it after Talak requests her to do so while the construction personnel approach the mothership.

Justice League Unlimited[]

  • Tricks Martian Manhunter into sending help to the Hockalint mining ship for an apparent mineral radiation emergency situation in an unhabituated moon where she and most of Hro Talak's forces were left stranded after escaping from the Gordanians.
  • Sets up a holographic mine to kill Hawkgirl, Vixen and Vigilante when they come to help, having her men shoot at them before cornering them behind a rock.
  • Reveals Hro Talak's fate in order to make Hawkgirl feel responsible for betraying her species and more willing to surrender herself to them, threatening to kill Vixen and Vigilante if they try to help.
  • Flies over the moon's forces to find Hawkgirl, Vixen and Vigilante, even ordering her men to find Hawkgirl's friends to incite her to come from her hiding.
  • Threatens to kill Vixen after she knocks out one of her men, cutting off contact with Martian Manhunter.
  • Has Kragger take Vixen as a hostage and to force Hawkgirl into dropping her Nth maze and surrender to spare her friend, but even though Hawkgirl does so, Dul lets Kragger drop Vixen thousands of feet off to her intended death, which would have killed her had Vigilante not arrived aboard Dul's Thanagarian scout ship to the rescue.
  • Engages Vixen in a fight inside the ship, nearly skewering her with a spiked glove and beating her up with her own hands.

What Prevents Her from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Due to just assisting Hrok Talak in the Thanagarian invasion, Paran Dul fails the DCAU's massive Heinous Standards to him, but given her willingness in the plot, this is a minor prevention.
  • She cares for her race, as she was furious at Hawkgirl's betrayal for causing the Thanagarian Empire's downfall to the Gordanians. Even though she and her men purposely stayed in an unhabituated moon instead of going back home to help the Thanagarian resistance, she declared that they would return once they killed Hawkgirl.
  • Like her fellow teammates, she cared for Hro Talak, obeyed all his commands and wanted to avenge him, proving that she appreciated his sacrifice to ensure she and the others lived for another day.
  • May have some honor as she offered Vixen and Vigilante to leave unharmed if they surrendered Hawkgirl to them, even warning them about possibly dying if they opted to fight by her side. However, considering that her men destroyed their ship and thus Vixen and Vigilante would have had no way out of the moon even if they had surrendered Hawkgirl, it's unknown if this was sincere or not.

Trivia[]

  • Paran Dul is, alongside Thoth Khepera and Aresia, one of the three Near Pure Evils of the DC Animated Universe to be female.
