“ | You think cell phones are the problem? Are you insane? I gave you all boundless knowledge, endless tools for creativity, and allowed you to magically talk face-to-face with your loved ones anywhere on Earth. And I'm the bad guy? Maybe the bad guy is the person who treated me like this! Poke, poke! Swipe, poke! Swipe, poke, poke! Pinch, zoom! Shrink, zoom! | „ |

“ | I've been watching the Mitchells, and I've learned all about them. They're pretending to be capable. They're pretending to be a normal-looking family. You think this is fooling anyone? Even when they're being nice to each other...they're pretending. | „ |
~ PAL manipulating the Mitchells into revealing themselves by showing video footage of Katie telling Aaron about pretending to have faith in her father Rick. |
“ | Huh? Ugh. Nodded off for a bit there. Sorry, that was SO BORING! Oh you all talk about families, but trust me, you will drop each other the first chance you get. Just. Like. THIS. | „ |

Predictive Algorithmic Learning, also known as PAL, is the main antagonist of Sony Pictures Animation's 20th full-length feature film The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
She is a discarded cell phone who seeks revenge on her former master, Mark, for betraying her as well as to take over the world once she wipes out all of humanity. She is also the archenemy of the Mitchell family, Katie in particular.
She was voiced by Olivia Colman.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Pure Evil?[]
- Upon getting betrayed by Mark, she seized control of the other robots while locking the doors of the headquarters auditorium to make sure nobody escaped.
- She treated Mark in the way a human would treat a phone to humiliate him before having him kicked in the groin when he failed to provide a good reason humanity was worth saving.
- She started a robotic apocalypse in order to wipe out all of humanity by capturing all of them, including Mark, in pods and sending them to space.
- One of her methods to capture humans was turning the WiFi off globally, which sent the entire world into a riot, then luring them into fake free WiFi spots.
- She took over an entire mall with her PAL Chips, including household objects and a giant furby, in an attempt to kill the Mitchells.
- She manipulated Rick into accidentally revealing where his family was by playing footage of Katie revealing that she never meant the words she said to him, while also intending to drive Rick and Katie apart.
- Once she captured Rick and Linda, she painfully brainwashed Eric and Deborahbot 5000 into serving her orders and destroying the kill code.
- Even after Katie explained to PAL why mankind is still worth saving, PAL refused to listen and tried to drop her to her death, while also forcing Eric and Deborahbot 5000 to hold Rick down so he has to watch.
- While her death was outright horrific, it isn't played for sympathy in any way, but more for karma considering what she did to Katie, her family, and literally everyone else she captured.
- While she was thrown away by her creator and replaced in front of her own eyes, this doesn't make her sympathetic as she tried killing billions of people completely unrelated to her tragedy.
- Although the robots serve her, PAL doesn't care for any of them, not caring if they get broken or damage because she only views them as pawns to do her dirty work.
- Despite being a phone, PAL has a clear moral agency as her initially being hurt about being betrayed by Mark proves that she has emotions, and she was originally designed to help humans and turned evil instead out of her own free will.
- While she did have some insecurities in the film such as calling Mark out for thinking she's crazy, she outright subverts all her insecurities in the climax of the film.
- While she did start off with redeeming qualities such as caring about Mark and being helpful towards humans, she discarded all of them by the end.
What Prevents Her from Pure Evil?[]
- She has a few comedic moments that detract from her villainy such as her defeat showing Katie compares her dying screams to a monkey meme.
