Owen is a major antagonist in AMC’s The Walking Dead, serving as the overarching antagonist of season 5, and the main antagonist of season 6. He is a fanatical cult leader who runs a group known as The Wolves, who slaughter communities and turn the survivors into walkers.

He was portrayed by Benedict Samuel, who also played Jervis Tetch in Gotham.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Owen and his group slaughtered communities via extremely brutal means, and then carved W’s into their foreheads. One of these communities were Shilwirt Estates, in which had children in them that included Noah’s little brothers, and another being a camp in which they tied their victims to trees and disemboweled them.
  • He held up Morgan and tried to rob and kidnap him.
  • Led an attack on Alexandria with all his wolves, resulting in the deaths of about 20 people, including his own men, which he later expresses no remorse for, only regretting not planning more intricately.
  • This would later result, due to the massive noise, of the giant zombie horde invading Alexandria, which would cause the deaths of many people, including Jessie, Sam, Ron, Deanna Monroe and Carl losing his eye.
  • Kidnaps Denise Cloyde and attempts to leave Alexandria with her to restart his cult.
  • While his main goal isn’t full known, it was apparently under the delusion of “freeing” people. It also appeared and was said that he wanted to create a giant army of zombies.
  • Despite giving his life to save Denise, Owen still felt no remorse for all the people he killed nor any of the suffering he caused to others, and this doesn’t make him redeemed, as, while Denise had suggested he had changed, it isn’t known if he would truly change.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • While he doesn’t get redeemed, it’s clear he did care for Denise in the end, as he ends up saving her life from getting killed by a Walker, even at the cost of his own life.
