Otto, also known as the Counsellor, is the main antagonist of the Little Nightmares radio series The Sound of Nightmares. He is a psychiatrist that works to help a young girl named Noone to overcome her problem with nightmares as well as to uncover her connection to his beloved Sisi's mysterious fate.

He was voiced by Kester Lovelace.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Instead of treating the young Noone for her mental condition of inflicted nightmares, he becomes more obsessed in using her to gain knowledge about the Nowhere and would drug her with candies and force her to have session late at night, despite her discomfort.
  • He forces Noone to answer questions until she passes out.
  • He does not tell Noone about her tumor, knowing it would be non-beneficial to him as she wouldn't be able to cooperate.
  • While Noone is asleep, he ends up hooking her up to the machine.
  • Despite Noone's attempts to withdraw from the procedure of linking their minds together in a dream state, he does not permit her, instead reaches into the jar of candy and tells her to eat three of the candies to put herself at ease. Despite her unwillingness to eat the candies, he raises his tone of voice to deny her decision. This session would later end up indirectly causing Noone's disappearance. While this was not his intention, he showed no remorse and only wonders how he can continue his research.
  • After being informed by The Ferryman that the Nowhere only accepts children, he takes this advice as a way not to give up, then later sadistically lures in the young sleep-walking patient, Ethan, with a piece of candy, presumably to experiment on him and then send him to the Nowhere.
    • With this, it is heavily implied he did this to multiple more children, possibly even being responsible for the fates of all children seen in the Nowhere, while being fully aware of the atrocities that take place. This is hinted at toward more by the fact that he considers referring to children by numbers, despite being something only the heartless doctors from the upper floors of the ward would do.
  • While he started off as a genuine doctor with noble intentions of helping children, he has subverted this with his actions and obsessiveness, showing notable sadism at having Ethan become his next Guinea pig.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He is tragic as he grew up severely bullied and ended up having his sister kidnapped, which affected his mental health and sanity.
  • He genuinely loved his older sister (who is implied to be either Six or the Girl in the Yellow Raincoat in the present) and his main motive for traveling to the Nowhere is to rescue her, also making him an extremist.
  • He suffers from fridge horror as while the ending hints that he became worse and continued sending children to the Nowhere is implied, not confirmed. His other actions are mostly standard psychological abuse, neglect and unethical experiments that only affect one person.

Trivia[]

  • While Otto is only human, his behavior mirrors the monsters of The Nowhere, due to him being fixated on a primary obsession, and his harsh treatment of children.
