I itch to peel you, to split your skin, to see your skull shine in the light, little tyrant. Lucky for you, I harvested a whole family of living-flesh in Rivington at Highsun. They will sate my blade-thirst tonight. But tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, my blades will thirst again.
~ Orin the Red to Enver Gortash.

Orin the Red is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Ketheric Thorm) of the 2023 fantasy video game Baldur's Gate III.

She is the main antagonist of The Dark Urge's personal questline The Urge, as well as one of the overarching antagonists of Act I and one of the three main antagonists (alongside Enver Gortash and Raphael) of Act III.

She is a psychotic and bloodthirsty changeling and chosen of the god Bhaal, who conspired with Lord Enver Gortash and Ketheric Thorn in the conquest of Faerun through the Cult of the Absolute. Desperate to seek his approval, Orin plots to betray her allies to take control of the Absolute to commit mass murder and destruction in Bhaal's name.

She is also the daughter of Sarevok Anchev, and the kin relative and arch-nemesis of the Dark Urge, whom she wishes to kill so she could remain as the Chosen of Bhaal. She is also the archenemy of Minthara Baenre, whom she tortured and brainwashed in joining the cult.

She was voiced by Maggie Robertson, who also voiced Alcina Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What makes her close to being Pure Evil?[]

In General/Background[]

  • As one of the leaders of the Cult of the Absolute, Orin is responsible for the atrocities committed by the cult throughout the entire game.
  • She is highly homicidal and unstable, as she tends to cause murder and destruction throughout Faerun, mainly out of her sadistic bloodlust and her fanatical devotion to Bhaal.
    • Her unstable nature and homicidal tendencies are so vile, she is despised by nearly everyone (even kind-hearted characters like Wyll, Karlach, and Halsin see her as a monster). Even her allies like Gortash and Thorm find her to be a hindrance to their plans.
    • Additionally, her followers and even Sarevok are bothered by her, and the former is not even willing to avenge her demise and let the party go free when they kill her. This shows how incredibly vile Orin is, even by Bhaal's standards.
  • At young age, Orin murdered her mother/sister Helena. Although this was in self-defense since Helena tried to kill her, she displayed no remorse for this and even put her as a display in her room.
  • Before joining the cult, she and the Dark Urge have often killed many people as a way to offer their souls to Bhaal.
  • During the early stage of the Absolute Crisis, she betrayed the Dark Urge by driving a dagger through the Urge's skull and planting a tadpole in them, leaving him to die, while taking his place as the Chosen of Bhaal.
    • Because of her betrayal, she is ultimately responsible for the creation of the "True Souls" in the cult since the Urge was studied upon by Kressa Bonedaughter, which would make their condition worse and lead to the Elder Brain calling him a "True Soul" which inspired Gortash of creating more of them to reinforce the false religion of the Absolute.
    • In addition, should the player not choose the Dark Urge as the main player, then Orin will eventually torture him to death and leave him as a display in her room.
  • She displays no love for her mother and the Dark Urge, the latter she is greatly envious of and has a desire to kill so she could prove herself to Bhaal, who farvors him more than Orin.
  • She also displays no sense of loyalty towards any of her allies (with the sole exception of her god Bhaal) as she often craves to kill Gortash, but she cannot due to not being allowed to harm him.
  • She ultimately stands out in terms of personal resources, since all she has under her command is a cult of Bhaal worshipers, while her allies possess far greater resources than her ( with Lord Enver Gortash being a highly popular noble and temporary archduke of Baldur's Gate, commanding both Flaming Fist and the Steel Watch, having a network of allies as well, while Ketheric Thorm has a large army under his command).

Baldur's Gate III[]

Act I[]
  • Alongside Ketheric Thorm, she was responsible for Minthara Baenre's affiliation to the cult and the crimes she committed under the Absolute's name.
    • She murdered all of Minthara's allies, and forced her to watch as her men would either be left as food or turn into thralls, before she was tortured and brainwash into joining the cult. she later manipulated Minthara into being a zealot, telling her false lies of the Absolute and how she is a True Soul, chosen by the Absolute as her greatest weapon, further corrupting the mind-controlled Minthara.
    • Alongside Thorm, she is indirectly responsible for Minthara's mass massacres, mostly on religious communities who refused to be converted to the Absolute, including her attempt massacre at the Emerald Grove, which led to hostility between the Tiefling Refuges and the Emerald Druids.
  • It is revealed that she was behind the kidnapping of Ulder Ravenguard, the arch-duke of Baldur's Gate and Wyll's father, which led to the death of several soldiers and civilians (among them being potentially Councilor Frederick).
Act II[]
  • She briefly taunts Thorm, who was having an argument with Gortash.
    • She also tries to kill Thorm due to his attempt to attack Gortash, as well as her bloodlust desire, but she ultimately stops herself as she knows that Thorm is important to their grand plan.
  • She forces Ulder to have a tadpole to be placed in him by the Absolute, which would allow Gortash to control him into making him arch-duke of Baldur's Gate.
Act III[]
  • She ultimately caused havoc and chaos throughout Baldur's Gate by having her Bhaal loyalists kill innocent people as possible, and then shapeshift into their victims to cause more confusion. Among the victims were:
    • Dribbles the Clown of the Circus of the Last Days, and two more members of the circus, who attempts to kill the party while murdering several citizens in the process.
    • Jaheria's Harpers (with one of them being a last survivor), which meant that not even the Harpers could be of help since Orin has shapeshifters involved.
  • She psychologically taunts the party members with every chance she gets, by disgusting herself as one of the people that the party attempts to talk to. This also meant that the people she shapeshifted were killed by her, as the players can find their bodies in Bhaal Temple.
    • She also tends to taunt the Dark Urge, gleefully revealing the truth of their relations and how she craves to kill him when the time arrives.
  • She would later kidnap one of the party members (Gale Dekairos, Lae'zel, Halsin, or Minathara) in order to force the player to kill Gortash and if they do not by the time they arrive at Bhaal Temple, she will kill her kidnapped victim.
    • She can also potentially kidnap Yenna and while she does so, she will murder her pet cat Grub and will be cook on a sewer and attempts to feed him to the party while disguise as Yenna.
    • If she kidnaps Lae'zel, she will also attempt to kill Yenna and can only be stop if the player sees right through her.
      • Regardless of these two outcomes, Yenna will be immensely shaken up, although she will eventually move on.
  • She toys around with her kidnapped victim surrounded by Bhaalist cultists. When approached by the player, Orin will threaten to kill her hostage and can only be stopped if she is persuaded to challenge her, threaten, or reveal the truth behind her origin.
    • In a special dialogue, before commencing her duel with the Dark Urge, she gleefully reveals how she betrayed him and hearing his anguish reaction all while using his form, taking pride in her betrayal towards him.
  • She attempts to kill the entire party and despite her strength and power, she ultimately fails.

What prevents her from being pure evil?[]

  • She possess a tragedy of having been born of a incestuous relationship between Sarevok and Helena, and a horrible childhood as she was born to be made a human sacrifice, and raised horribly in a religion that worships Bhaal.
  • Despite her twisted desire to kill him, she ultimately loves her father Sarevok, as well as her grandfather Bhaal (whom she continuously worships and is gravely loyal to), as every atrocities she has committed was all to receive their admiration and affection.
    • Furthermore, if the player reveals the truth behind her origins, she doesn't take it well and she even sadly laments that all of her vile actions was to show her love and admiration for her father.
