~ One-Shot Wren's catchphrase, said every time he kills Meggy. |
Wren, better known as One-Shot Wren, is a major antagonist in the Australian adult-animated drama comedy web series SMG4. He is the former idol and arch-rival of Meggy.
He serves as the unseen overarching protagonist of Season 9, 10, The Anime Arc and SMG4 Movie: Meggy's Destiny, a flashback character in Season 11, one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Marty) of Season 13, and the main antagonist of the 2023 film SMG4 Movie: Western Spaghetti.
Formerly a highly skilled Splatfest world champion, he became "forgotten" after being defeated and losing his first-place title. At his lowest point, he was invited by Mr. Puzzles to live out his old glory days in a world that he alone controls, turning himself into a controlling, arrogant and selfish outlaw. Wren went on to kidnap, trap and brainwash Meggy and her friends in the simulation, with the goal of having a never-ending rivalry with her.
He was voiced by Yuki Tsujii in the original videos and Sean Chiplock in the movie.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- While he started off as a nice guy who saved Meggy from danger, he has since subverted most of these qualities and was shown to be okay with tormenting her.
- While he has a Freudian Excuse, being forgetten by everyone due to no longer winning Splatfest, making him feel desperate, he goes beyond any sympathy due to wanting to be worshipped, willing to psychologically torture Meggy and her group just to relive his glory days of being on top, simply to feed his own egotism.
- To relive the glory days of being on top, he becomes a dangerous outlaw in a simulation.
- He stole Meggy's beanie and gave it to three Inkling kids so that Meggy would be able to get it back and try to find him.
- He kidnaps Meggy and her crew, placing them in the simulation while wiping their minds, and even taunting her over the deaths of Axol and Desti by using simulations of them just to psychologically toy with Meggy (and Tari to a lesser extent), knowing how close they were to the gang.
- When Meggy recognizes the simulation, Wren murders Meggy during each time, resetting the loop as he repeatedly shoots her, all the while she remembers each loop, and he terrorizes her for an entire month of repeatedly killing her, driving Meggy insane for a bit and becoming completely traumatized.
- He attempts to hang SMG4 and the gang to make "one hell of a show", planning on keeping them and torturing them in the simulation forever.
- Attempts to forcibly bring back all the gang into the simulation, which leads to the entire building crumbling and collapsing, nearly killing everyone, and even causing his own death.
- While he does accepts his fate, it doesn't make him redeemed because he doesn't feel remorse for his actions.
- When Mr. Puzzles brings up his actions to Meggy in SMG4 Movie: WESTERN SPAGHETTI, she had a panic attack. reminding her of how many times One-Shot Wren killed her. This shows that Meggy still has trauma over the ordeal with him and his simulation over a month.
- While he does have a few comedic moments, he is still taken 100% seriously as a threat. What's worse is that he gradually becomes terrifying as the film progresses.
- In "SMG4 and SMG3 Rank SMG4 Characters", althrough it's debatable if this is canonic, he harasses Meggy alongside Francis and Waluigi when SMG3 talks about her plot armor, representing all the traumas she had throughout the series.
- While Niles, Francis, Mr. Puzzles, Waluigi, Lawyer Kong and Ztar did worse than him, he has less resources and manages to stand out due to his unique crime of trapping Meggy and her friends in a simulation for over a month and killing Meggy numerous times to the point of driving her insane from the trauma of the numerous killings and making her completely traumatized, which is effectively in fates worse than death, one he intended to subject them all to forever.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- Despite his cruel treatment of her, he ultimately had genuine respect towards Meggy for her skills as well as giving her his beanie when she first met him, his final words being a compliment about how she made "one hell of a rival".
- His death was played with sympathy, with Meggy disappointed and saddened as the base collapses, admitting she wishes they could have been friends before Wren comforts her by saying they at least were rivals. After Meggy leaves Wren to his fate, he quietly accepts his death as sympathetic music plays.
