Quiet! I was once taken in by the chittering of your predecessors. No more. I've come to do what I should have done long ago... WIPE YOUR KIND FROM EXISTANCE!
~ Old Iron attempting to wipe out humanity once again.
At the core of human nature is the will to dominate. There can be no balance between the Spirit World and the human one. I pay homage to you, young human. For you have vanquished me.
~ Old Iron's last words.

Old Iron is a minor antagonist in the Avatar series, being the main antagonist of the tie-in comic trilogy The Rift. He is the protector of Lady Tienhai who attempted to wipe out all of humanity after he supposed death.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He wanted to wipe out a colony of humans who had settled near the riverbank, only being stopped by Lady Tienhai.
  • After Lady Tienhai's supposed death, he attempted to wipe out humanity out of rage, even though it wasn't their fault.
  • Despite the Earth King offering to die in place of the people, he continues his rampage anyways.
  • After the treaty was accidentally broken by Loban, he attempts to wipe out humanity again.
  • He tries to kill Toph and her three students, all of whom are children, just for removing his armour.
  • While it can be argued that he is an extremist, he goes way too far and his motive is way too petty for this to hold up.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • He genuinely cares for Lady Tienhai, since her death is the reason for his rampage.
  • He has some honour, since he keeps the agreement he made with Avatar Yangchen and show respect to Aang for defeating him.
  • His death is played for sympathy, with him crying over the fact that spirits have no place in the world and Aang begging him to stay with them.
