Fear me!
~ Noob Saibot
We share blood. But we are not brothers.
~ Noob Saibot to Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat (2011), his most famous quote.
Kronika said I would lead the New Era's deadliest clan. But she made such promises to many. She could never keep them all. So I betrayed her, before she could betray me. When Kronika's sands fused with my shadows, my ambitions grew. Why be a ruler of mortals, when I could rule destiny itself? Mortals resisted, but could not stop, my blanketing history in cold, endless night. All is dark. All are shadows. I have had many names. Now I am become Death, destroyer of worlds.
~ Noob Saibot in his Mortal Kombat 11 ending.

Bi-Han, previously known as Sub-Zero, and currently known as Noob Saibot, is one of the secondary antagonists of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Once the highly respected and legendary assassin of the Lin Kuei, Bi-Han was the original Sub-Zero and its eventual leader. But he would soon be unjustly murdered by Scorpion, having been framed of murdering his family and clan. This would eventually lead him into being resurrected into a wraith by the sorcerer Quan Chi, soon being part of the Brotherhood of Shadows and serving Shinnok, fully embracing his new life as Noob Saitbot. He is the older brother and arch-enemy of Kuai Liang and his killer, Scorpion.

In Mortal Kombat (2011), he was voiced by Jamieson Price, and later being voiced by Sean Chiplock in Mortal Kombat 11.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • While he initially held redeeming qualities, such as aiding Raiden in fighting Shinnok and Quan Chi, he subverted all of them upon his transformation into Noob Saibot; he goes on to serve Shinnok and Quan Chi willingly, with several references made by him solidifying his loyalty to the former in his MK11 intro dialogues.
  • He carries massive disdain towards his brother Kuai Liang and is a misogynist, as evident by his sexism towards Frost, despite acknowledging Kuai Liang's potential as a superior grandmaster, his admission is driven by fanaticism rather than genuine respect. This dialogue suggests that he may intend for Kuai Liang to corrupt the Lin Kuei.
  • His fatalities are especially brutal even for the Mortal Kombat franchise.

Background[]

  • Even before his rebirth as a wraith, Bi-Han, unlike his younger brother, was cold and ruthless, lacking empathy and was very willing to kill without hesitation.
  • As the Lin Kuei's utmost assassin, it is extremely likely that he has assassinated many people over his time, having no remorse for any of his deeds.
  • He possessed a strong hatred for the Shirai Ryu clan, often mocking them and taunting Scorpion about it, though it is understandable as he was being unfairly framed for massacring his clan, something he genuinely did not do.

Mortal Kombat (2011)[]

  • During the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament, He and the Lin Kuei directly participated and fought against Earthrealm Heroes, on behalf of Shang Tsung, not caring that they were fighting against Earthrealm, their home.
  • He eventually faces off against a resurrected Scorpion and mocks him, including the Shirai Ryu's demise.
  • After he is killed and resurrected by Quan Chi, as Noob Saibot, he actually embraces his new personality, preferring it over his mortal life and stating it suits his purposes.
  • As Quan Chi's minion, he participated in the next tournament in Outworld, once again fighting the heroes and helping Shao Kahn in his attempted takeover of Earthrealm.
  • When Kabal attempted to take on Shao Kahn, he along with Mileena fought him, presumably intending to kill him.
  • He plays a huge role in Outworld's invasion of Earthrealm, directly assisting Quan Chi in his acts of conjuring a massive Souldnado to absorb the souls of everyone in Earthrealm, being responsible for thousands of deaths directly and more.
  • When Kuai Liang (now Cyber Sub-Zero) comes to stop him, Noob takes him on and attempts to kill his own brother. While he doing so, he also mocks Kuai Liang and disowns him because he now fights for Earthrealm.
  • He also attempts to take out Nightwolf when the latter tries to stop the Soulnado.

Mortal Kombat 11[]

  • He remerges 25 years later during Mortal Kombat 11 and aligns with Kronika, someone who wants to destroy the universe as she promised to grant him his own undead clan.
  • During Scorpion and Sub-Zero’s raid of Cyber Lin Kuei Assembly Plant, Noob attacks them while mocking them both, telling the latter than he is nothing with Quan Chi's magic and the former that he makes a poor grandmaster.
  • He assists Future Jax in getting and protecting Kronika's crown, fighting Past Jax and Jacqui Briggs by restraining them with his shadow clones, but he is still defeated.

What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]

  • Despite what he became after death, he is still tragic since he was framed for killing Hanzo's family and was brutally murdered for it. Although it seems as if he appears perfectly content with his fate and new form, several of his dialogues in Mortal Kombat 11 shows that he is rightfully angry that he never got justice for his wrongful death, as well as having to relinquish a sacred title unwillingly due to it.
  • He possesses some moral agency issues due to being resurrected as a malevolent wraith by Quan Chi. However, given how he fully embraces his new form and engages in malevolent acts of his own accord, this makes for a minor prevention.
  • He somewhat fails the Heinous Standards to other villains like Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, as both have done worse with roughly similar resources.

Trivia[]

  • Interestingly, Bi-Han being Near Pure Evil serves as a reflection to his brother Kuai Liang, who is Near Pure Good.
  • His original timeline version cannot qualify as NPE due to being bog-standard, as well for being a Inconsitently Admirable and Villainous Benchmark.
  • His New Era Version is Heroic Benchmark and Villainous Benchmark (because he had an Order of Darkness counterpart to be VB).
