“ | Greetings, creatures of this planet, I've come to compete. So you pesky earthlings like to race, eh, hehehehe. Well I, Nitros Oxide, am the fastest racer in the galaxy. I travel the stars looking for creatures to test my skills. It's a little game I call Survival of the Fastest. Here's the way we play: I challenge the best driver of your world to a race for the planet. If your driver wins I'll leave your miserable little rock alone. But if I win I'll turn your entire globe into a concrete parking lot and make you my slaves. HAHAHAHAHAHA! Get ready to race for the fate of your planet! | „ |
~ Oxide's first and most famous phrase in Crash Team Racing. |
Nitros Oxide is a major antagonist in the Crash Bandicoot franchise, serving as the main antagonist of the 1999 videogame Crash Team Racing and its 2019 remake Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. He is a prominent racer alien from Gasmoxia, who has challenged to race the other planets in the universe to turn them into parking lots.
He was voiced by the late David Anthony Pizzuto in the original CTR and by Quinton Flynn in Crash Nitro Kart, who also portrayed Victor in Crash Twinsanity. In the remake CTR: Nitro-Fueled, he was played by Corey Burton, who also voiced Lythos and Stratos in Hercules, Shockwave in Transformers: Animated, Cad Bane in the Star Wars franchise, Malware in Ben 10: Omniverse and Brainiac in LEGO DC Super-Villains.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
- In the past, he has conquered many planets, presumably enslaving and/or exterminating them, to turn them into parking lots.
- It is shown in the Nitro-Fueled Digital Comic that he exterminated all the inhabitants of Mars.
- Upon seeing Earth's race advertisement, he challenged them to a race, with the threat that if they lost, he would enslave them.
- Even if he has been defeated in the normal ending, he will demand that the competitors collect all the relics if the player has not collected them, not accepting defeat.
- In Twinsanity, it is shown that he joined the villain gathering to get revenge on Crash, presumably hoping that Cortex will kill him.
- It is implied that he told Velo about the runners he competed in CTR, which caused Velo to compete with them, threatening to destroy the Earth if they didn't continue racing or get lost, and Oxide competes against them.
- In Crash Nitro Kart 2, he once again attempted to turn Earth into a parking lot, with the help of Cortex and Ripper Roo, and attempted to deforest Yaya Panda's forest and turn the oceans into nitro fuel.
- Although he says that Cortex is the best in the race against him in Crash Nitro Kart 2, it is more likely out of pragmatism for expecting him to beat Coco than genuine respect, as in another scene, Oxide says that he himself is the best, making him a hypocrite.
- In Crash Bash, he tries to kill the player character.
- Although it can be said that he is honorable, given how he promised not to disturb Earth anymore in Crash Team Racing, and he leaves after being defeated with the relics, given how he once again competed with Earth and tried to turn it into a parking lot in Crash Nitro Kart 2 (Java), decided to take revenge against Crash and it is strongly implied that he told the events of CTR to Velo and competed once again with the protagonists, this promise was probably false or was subverted.
- Unlike most of the franchise's villains, he has few or no genuinely comedic moments and is generally taken seriously, and although he has comedic moments in some skins in Nitro Fueled, they are not canon.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- He depends a little on Fridge Horror, as it is not confirmed how many planets he exactly conquered and what he did with most, and it is not shown how horrible Earth's slavery would be, however, in the digital comic it is shown that there were many planets that he conquered, at least around 100, and given what he did to Mars and the threat he made to Earth, it is very likely that he did to the other planets as well, exterminating and/or enslaving the inhabitants, and about the slavery of Earth, although it is not shown what it would be like, it would clearly be something bad at the very least, so this is a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown whether his Crash 4 continuity version is or will become Near Pure Evil, as despite his Butt-Monkey moments, they are not portrayed sympathetically and do not come close to what he committed, and it can be argued that are played for laughs, however, still have a chance to change.
