The Night Master is one of the two main antagonists of Yin Yang Yo!, serving as the main antagonist of Season 1 and the overarching antagonist of Season 2.
He is an unnamed vampiric humanoid bat who, by the beginning of the show, is the current sorcerer holding the title of the Night Master. The Night Master was responsible for nearly destroying Woo Foo in the past, leaving Master Yo as the sole surviving practitioner, until he started training the bunny siblings Yin and Yang, becoming threats to the Night Master's sinister plans as well.
He was voiced by the late David Hemblen.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Evil?[]
Before Series[]
- Since it is established that a person must do something evil enough (such as killing a sibling) to be allowed access to the Night Master's cave and become a Night Master, its very likely he already crossed the Moral Event Horizon by doing something horrible enough to enter the lair.
- He is also willing to kill any villain who doesn't side with him.
- In the past, he was responsible for killing all Woo Foo practioners except Master Yo. While it was off-screen, this would have a big impact on the show.
- When Master Yo defeated his army by turning them into stone, he used the Amnesulet to erase the entire world's (except Master Yo) memory of Woo Foo so everyone would think it was for idiots.
- Although he acts sometimes affable to other villains, like Coop and Eradicus, he tends to insult and belittle them at the same time.
Season 1[]
- In the present, he plotted many times to kill Yin and Yang, along with Master Yo.
- He is shown to be abusive to his underlings, even to his disciple Coop, who was the minion of his he trusted most due to his lack of failure.
- In "Dojo, Oh No!", he sends Ultimoose to try and split Yin and Yang up, when this ultimately fails, he removes his antlers.
- In "Falling Yin Love", it is revealed he had given Yuck a robot body he could use to pretend to be "Brett", so he could falsely pose as Yin's boyfriend and drain her Woo Foo to revive himself.
- In "A Toy's Story", he has Zarnot use a robotic doll to trick Yin into thinking it was a harmless doll so he could infiltrate the dojo and blow it up. But when he fails, the Night Master "improvises" on him by ripping his head off.
- In "The Return of the Night Master", he would successfully trick Yin and Yang into using their anger (which Yo advised them not to use) during a dodge ball tournament to free his army. When they outlived their usefulness, he tried to kill them but they managed to escape.
- In "Wubble In Paradise", he invades Yang's old comic that he made when he was 4, "Super Yangy and Mr. Fuzzlepants' Adventures in Wubble Bubble Land", and started terrorizing it. Notably, he intended to erase Yang's "childish notions of good and evil", starting by murdering two of the characters in it, Booky Bookshiner and Mr. Fuzzlepants himself, by erasing them from existence, much to Yang's despair and horror. Though Yang does defeat him by using the power he has in his imaginary world, after which brings the two back to life.
- In "Shopping Sprawl", he has Ultimoose trick Yin and Yang into spending credit cards at a mall so he can force them into paying off their debts to him.
- In "Pros and Cons", he holds a villain convention, where he would reveal his plans to them.
- He states to kill Yin and Yang in front of Master Yo, so that he would be able to have his army reign terror. His main objective, however, is revealed to be blocking out the three suns with the Geo-Demosoic Device (which would move the three moons in front of the suns) and bring eternal darkness to the world, allowing him to become all powerful and roam free (since he hates light). He then plays a "trailer" for his siege, showing a bunch of people running and screaming, before a series of skulls appear on the screen, indicating he intends to kill many innocent people.
- He would then demand the villains in the audience to join him or he'd kill them.
- He would command everyone else to kill Carl and "Death Donkey" (Yin and Yang in disguise).
- When Yin and Yang get their cover blown and they all get surrounded, he only tells the other villains to not kill the two since he sees it as pointless as he believes Yo will train more competent warriors if they do. The reason why he told the rabbit siblings this is because he sees it as a "panel", so they don't have anything to write down his plans on and that he doesn't want this to be their end if Yo isn't there. By saying that he'll ultimately remember who was loyal to him (and who wasn't), he erases their memory using the Amnesulet. Luckily, Yin wrote down his plan before he did so.
- In "Voyage to the Center of the Yo", He tasks Yuck to retrieve the Toilet Brush of Illumination from the Safety Deposit Box Dimension by giving him the means to go inside Yo and then wait until he gets the Brush. Yuck fails and temporarily dies for second and final time, while Yo succeeds in getting it. It's pretty likely he knew he failed in getting it and wasn't at all concerned about what may have happened to him.
- In "Shadows and Light", when Brother Herman stole the Geo-Demosoic Device (which he couldn't power due to it only being powered by Woo Foo), the Night Master stole it from him so he could use it in his plan, implying he'd kill him after he blocks out the suns.
- In "Who Knows What Evil Lurks", he has Zarnot sent out to try and stop Yin and Yang from uncovering Coop's role as his spy.
- In "Night Fall", he has Coop capture Master Yo, so he can drain his Woo Foo to power the Geo-Demosoic Device, a process that is shown to hurt.
- He would send out his army to capture Yin and Yang, and also Roger Jr. and Carl.
- When they break free, he sends his army and Coop to try and kill them.
- When the titular trio enter their aura forms and combine to fight him, he taunts them about their flaws, but Yin and Yang retort his comments (causing Coop to redeem himself). Offended by their idealism, he fires a powerful blast at them, retorting that it buys nothing but a nice sentiment on their tombstones, before Coop repairs the broken brush and fires it at him.
- Said blast also seemed to have even killed some of his soldiers.
- Mad that he would betray him, he tried to kill Coop.
- He lunges at the group (except Carl who fled) as Yin, Yang and Yo are vulnerable and unable to attack due to them having to power the device to reverse the suns and Roger Jr. not being able to, intending to kill them, before Coop swoops in and grabbed a hold of him before he broke free.
- He taunted Coop if he thinks he's strong enough to stop him, before the final moon came loose, blasting him with sunlight.
- He caused Coop to temporarily sacrifice himself to defeat him, as he holds him in place for Yin to hit with the Toilet Brush of Illumination, imprisoning them both.
Season 2[]
- Even after his defeat, his presence would still linger.
- His absence would lead the other villains to try and become the new Night Master, including his former minions Flaviour and Ultimoose, the latter successfully did in two separate timelines, causing him to reign havoc by destroying the town, likely killing hundreds of people, and even murder Yin and Yo by painfully burning them to death the second time.
- The dark energy that he put in Coop when he was his minion would also escape and start corrupting people into monsters. While it was stopped, it ended up getting into Coop again when he sucked it up, making him have to control his dark side.
- His absence would indirectly allow the resurrection of the original Night Master, Eradicus.
- In "Shadowcluck", he lends Eradicus his army at a yard sale. When the army is initially defeated by the Woo Foo Army, he refuses to refund Eradicus when he tries to return it, but when Eradicus comments that he looks familiar, he mockingly asks the older Night Master if he's "ever worked in evil".
- In "Yin Yang Who?", said army would be later used in Eradicus' attempted destruction of the world.
- Unlike Eradicus, he ends the series unknowingly to the heroes at large, having escaped his banishment.
- Unlike the majority of the other villains in the series and despite the comedic tone of the show, he has no real redeeming qualities and while not entirely, is taken more seriously. Anything redeeming about him is indicated to be a façade.
- While Carl (who came close to blowing up the three suns) and Herman (who stole the Geo-Demosoic device) have both attempted to black out the world, they never got as far as the Night Master, who covered 2 of the suns and came close to covering the third. And while Fastidous also attempted genocide, his was on a lower-scale and he never was as successful as the Night Master was.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Evil?[]
- While he is taken more seriously than the majority of the villains, he still has numerous comedic moments, including those that detract from his seriousness, such as hitting Master Yo with a plank of wood and him lending his army to Eradicus at a yard sale while in a silly disguise. However, he is still taken as a threat relatively enough and has an amount of serious moments to make this not a full prevention.
